Eugene had been in the Air Force during the early part of the war until he developed severe asthma and was honorably discharged. Eugene was the owner of a local chain of diners and Ida worked as a tour guide at the Capital. Patrick grew up in the city, and after graduating high school attended Macalester College. He studied political science and received his Bachelors degree.
