He attended Montclair State College from 1966-1970 graduating with a degree in History with the intent of teaching. At the age of 22, shortly after graduating, he attended a church service, at the prompting of a former roommate, and was converted to Christianity. In 1977 Gene graduated Westminster Theological Seminary in Glenside, PA, with a Masters of Divinity. He was pastor of a church in the Presbyterian Church in America from 1978-1990. He is still an ordained minister.

Gene Mullins (born December 1, 1948) is the United States Representative for the U.S. state of New Jersey's 11th Congressional District.

Early Life

Gene Mullins was born to Ralph and Ruth (n�©e Dotson) on December 1, 1948. The son of a High School history teacher, Gene took an early interest in history. He attended Montclair State College from 1966-1970 graduating with a degree in History with the intent of teaching. At the age of 22, shortly after graduating, he attended a church service, at the prompting of a former roommate, and was converted to Christianity. In 1977 Gene graduated Westminster Theological Seminary in Glenside, PA, with a Masters of Divinity. He was pastor of a church in the Presbyterian Church in America from 1978-1990. He is still an ordained minister.

Political Career

Living in the town of Long Valley, NJ, Gene became concerned about the quality of the school district and decided to run for School Board. This was his entry into politics. He served as School Board President from 1985-1989. After a failed run for mayor in 1991, he tried again in 1995 and was elected. He served two terms (1996-2004). In 2003, nearing the end of his mayoral term, he ran for NJ State Senator and was elected with 51% of the vote. In 2008, he was elected to represent the 11th District of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives.
