Jefferson Sàrgent Mitjavila, Jr. is a retired three-star General of the United States Armed Forces. He graduated first in his class at West Point, and began his military career in 1971, as a Second Lieutenant. He spent 46 years in the Army, reaching the rank of Lieutenant General in 2009. His retirement was defered twice; in 2013, and in 2015. On January 1st, 2017, the day of his 68th birthday, Sàrgent finally retired with honors.
Early life and education
Sàrgent's father Jefferson Sàrgent, Sr., was an Air Force Colonel who descended from a French family. His mother, Sophie Mitjavila, was a Spanish lawyer who moved to the United States in 1939 after the Spanish Civil War. They met in Lincoln, Nebraska, and married in 1948. On New Year's Day, 1949, Sàrgent Jr. was born; a week later, the family moved back to his father's homestate, California, and established at San Diego.
Jefferson grew up as a good and active student. He had begun his education one year early due to a register mistake, which listed him as having been born on December 31st, 1948, and thus graduated from high school in 1966. Encouraged by his sister, Rachel, and his parents, he fulfilled his dream: joining the U.S. Military Academy. He obtained his degree in 1971, number one in his class, and was comissioned a Second Lieutenant. He obtained a B.S. in International Relations.
Military Career
During his military career, Sàrgent served in a wide range of international conflicts, seeing combat during the closing years of the Vietnam War (1972) and the NATO operations at Kosovo (1999), and commanding forces during the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars. With an excellent service record, he worked his way up through the ranks, being promoted to Lieutenant General in 2009. His final retirement was defered in 2013, and again in 2015, until 2017, year in which he retired with honors.
Political Career
After his retirement, Sàrgent returned back to California and purchased a new home at San Diego. Well known and popular, with his political views unknown, and despite his age, he was was courted by both the Republican and Democratic parties to run for office. He initially denied any intentions to enter politics, but in 2019, DNC Director of Electoral Strategy, Governor Jimmy Kennedy and Southwest Governor Amanda Renzetti convinced him to join the Democratic Party. From 2019 to 2020, he lead fundraising efforts for Southwest Democratic candidates.
