The 2012 Democratic presidential primaries were the selection process by which voters of the Democratic Party chose their candidate for the 2016 United States presidential election. The Democratic Party candidate for president was selected through a series of primary elections and caucuses culminating in the 2016 Democratic National Convention held in Atlanta, Georgia. In order to secure the nomination at the convention, a candidate needed to receive at least 2,024 votes from delegates.
