Eric Smith is a Democratic Party member and Junior Senator of the state of Florida. Born in Orlando, Eric was born to Charles and Phyllis Smith. Eric was a Florida State Representative and Senator from 2000-2004, when he was first successfully elected to the House of Representatives. In 2006, Eric successfully campaigned to become a Senator of the United States, representing the state of Florida. Currently, Eric is campaigning to win the Democratic Presidential nomination in 2012.

Early Years

Born in 1966, Eric was welcomed into the world by a father whose construction business had been on the expansion for the past few years, bringing Eric into a successful. Regardless of his family's financial position, his parents taught Eric the value of hard-work and dedication, and it was through those values that Eric was able to succeed without being handed everything by his parents.

Eric served in the United States Army from 1984 to 1988, and was stationed in Germany towards the end of the Cold War. He is very proud of his time served and would answer the call of duty once more, even at his current age.

In 1992, Eric attained his first degree in history from Florida State University. In 1998 he attained a Masters Degree in history from Florida State University. In 2000 he married his wife, Hilary. Later in 2002 Eric gained another degree, attaining a Bachelor's in International Affairs, specializing in Middle Eastern Affairs. During these years, his political career started off as he won the town councilor race in Orlando, Florida in 1996. After serving two terms as a councilor, Smith sucessfully ran for a seat in the Florida House of Representatives. He served one term in the position and then was elected to the Florida State Senate. After his stint with the Florida Senate, Smith was elected to the US House of Representatives. Smith remained in the House for two terms until he became the new Senator from Florida.

Federal Politics

As a member of the House of Representatives for two terms and a member of the United State Senate for one term, Eric has proven himself to be a very capable and effective leader. In the Senate, Eric is well known for his pragmatic and rational approach to politics. He has a very strong record of supporting the United States Military, pushing for civil rights for all Americans, reforming the healthcare system, and correcting the educational system.

Floridians have been very pleased with Eric as their Senator, especially after his response to the malaria outbreak in Florida in 2008. Working with diligence and speed, Senator Smith was able to provide Florida with the proper Federal help that was necessary.

2012 Democratic Primary

Eric announced his candidacy for the Presidency of the United States in October of 2011, under the calling that America can once again be a nation of moral leadership and high purpose in the world. The Senator is currently polling third nationwide, though he enjoys a great amount of support in South Carolina and is on the up and up in Iowa.
