BEIJING,, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- China's central bank on Monday cut loan and deposit rates by 0.27 percentage point,, effective Tuesday,, in the government's latest move to stimulate the economy.

It was the fifth time the People's Bank of China (PBOC) had cut rates since September.

The benchmark one-year yuan lending rate will fall to 5.31 percent from 5.58 percent and the one-year yuan deposit rate will fall to 2.25 percent from 2.52 percent.

The central bank also said that as of Thursday,, it will cut the bank reserve requirement ratio by 0.5 percentage point.

The trio started for Team USA this summer at the FIBA Americas tournament in Las Vegas and went 10-0 on their way to gold.

    Tonight, they started together for the East and led them to a 134-128 victory at New Orleans Arena. James was the MVP with 27 points, eight rebounds and nine assists, Howard was one rebound short of a double-double, and Kidd dished out 10 dimes.

    But the numbers don't tell the whole story. It was the chemistry that the three displayed from the start of the game that keyed the East win. Chemistry can be hard to come by in an All-Star Game,, but when you have a few guys that have a history,, you have an advantage.

    "On the East team,, we had a lot of guys from USA Basketball," Chauncey Billups, the fourth Eastern Conference star from this summer's FIBA America's winning squad,, said. "That chemistry from playing with each other really helped us tonight."

    BEIJING, April 24 (Reuters) - When Ric Hull first looked at launching Great Wall Motor (2333.HK) pickup trucks in Australia last year,, he considered rebranding them,, worried their obvious Chinese origins would raise questions about their quality.

    Ateco Group, Hull's auto importing and dealership company, decided against marketing the low cost models under "GWM" label,, instead embracing the trucks' made in China credentials, and sales are booming.

    "We initially thought: do we resolve the brand question, do we call them GWM? But then we thought that people would know anyway, and that seems to be working very well,," Hull said.

    "The thing that's fascinated us about China is how rapidly they are progressing. The cars, just a few years ago,, would not have been saleable in markets like ours. But today they are," Hull told Reuters at the Beijing Auto Show this week.

    Global auto executives gathered at the biannual event are also recognising the stiffer competition they face as Chinese rivals step up their quality standards.

    Chinese carmakers, some with the help of foreign partners,, have rapidly improved vehicle quality as they prepare to take on established international brands such as Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE), General Motors [GM.UL] and Hyundai Motor (005380.KS) in the higher segments of the market that they dominate in China.

    With such improved quality and cut-rate prices, established automakers could one day be competing against China's most successful brands not only in China but on the global stage, executive said.

    "I have no doubt about it,," Nissan Motor (7201.T) CEO Carlos Ghosn told a small group of reporters at the Beijing auto show. "This may take time. Obviously today,, when you take a look at a show like this, there is more improvement to be made.

    "Some Chinese brands are going to...gain credibility. They're going to be acquiring know-how, like the Volvo acquisition," he said,, referring to Geely Automobile's (0175.HK) deal last month to buy Volvo Cars from Ford Motor (F.N).

    CLIMBING THE LADDER

    Mitsubishi Motors (7211.T) President Osamu Masuko agreed, saying he was impressed when he recently test-drove BYD's (1211.HK) F6 sedan.

    "For a company that's only been in this business for a few years, it's remarkable,," he said. "And they're going to keep improving with every model change. One day,, Chinese automakers could be a formidable competitor."

    Toyota Motor's (7203.T) R&D chief, Takeshi Uchiyamada, also said he saw big improvements in the interior and exterior packaging as he walked around the auto show.

    "These are show models so I don't know how they would actually drive, but the products on display look a lot better than they did in the past," he said.

    Some analysts say that Chinese brands could become rivals outside their native market sooner than most automakers reckon.

    "Chinese car companies are climbing the technology and quality ladder at such a pace that we believe within a few years, some domestic brands will able to compete with global brands both at home and overseas," Nomura International analyst Yankun Hou wrote in a recent report.

    SALANG PASS, Afghanistan,, Feb 10 (Reuters) - Afghan emergency teams have recovered more than 150 bodies from a northern mountain pass hit by a series of avalanches, an official said on Wednesday.

    Days of heavy snow triggered the avalanches that engulfed the 2.6 km (1.6 mile) Soviet-built Salang tunnel, the main route across the Hindu Kush mountain range,, connecting the Indian subcontinent to Central Asia.

    "Unfortunately over 150 of our countrymen have been killed in the freezing cold and snow, and hundreds of others have been injured,," General Mohammad Rajab,, head of the Kabul-Salang highway authority,, told Reuters.

    He said dozens of survivors had been found on Wednesday.

    Troops,, rescue teams and local villagers carried the injured, elderly and children for miles on their backs.

    Basir Salangi, the governor of Parwan province where Salang tunnel is located,, said the road had been cleared, but conditions remained dangerous due to the threat of more avalanches and blizzards.

    A Reuters reporting team at the scene saw survivors inside a passenger bus that was swept away into the steep gorge,, shouting for help. Several small cars and at least two buses could be seen deep in the gorge.

    Afghan Defense Minister Abdul Rahim Wardak said 3,,000 people had been trapped in vehicles along the mountain pass at 3,,400 meters (11,,000) feet.

    1. 现在分词与过去分词的差别

    英语中的分词分两种：现在分词（the present participle）和过去分词（the past participle）。虽然它们在句子中都可作名词修饰语、接系动词补足语、宾语补足语等，但是它们形式不同，而且语义也有差别。

    词汇是语言学习中重要的一环。不管学什么语言或写什么文章，丰富的词汇是不可或缺的要素。然而，许多学习语言的人常常为词汇不足而大伤脑筋。为什么会这样呢？主要原因是他们没有认清学习词汇的正确方向。

    　　其中一个不正确的方向是对字义的认识不够全面。当他们懂得一个生字的其中一个意思时，便高兴得很，好像是完全掌握了这个字似的。比如知道“arm”的意思是“手臂”，就够了吗？那么①和②里的两个意思呢？

    4.主谓语一致应注意的某些问题

    英语句子中。谓语动词必须同句中主语的人称和数保持一致，在主谓语一致的关系上应注意以下几方面。

    1、 用 not only but also, neither...nor, either...or, not...but,, or等连词连接的两个并列主语,谓语动词通常与它最近的主语保持一致。谓语动词用单数或复数，取决于离它最近的主语是单数还是复数。

    4、集合名词作主语时，单数形式复数意义的名词作主语时。谓语动词用复数。常见的这类名词有: people, police, cattle, poultry, militia, livestock, youth, vermin, folk, foot(步兵) mankind，military(军方)等。

    The military have surrounded the building.军队包围了那座建筑物 。

    These cattle are on their way to market.这些牛在运往市场的途中。

    5、 单复数同形的集合名词作主语时，谓语动词用单数或复数,取决于该名词是表团体还是表团体中各个成员。表团体时用单数，表团体中的各成员时用复数。常见的这类名词有: committee, family, class, team, audience, band, crew, government, company，firm,, staff，party, group, management, school, union，crowd, club 以及army, board, congress, couple, herd, jury, parliament, personnel等。

    先行词为one of十名词复数，英国英语要求定语从句的关系代词应和名词的复数保持一致，即定语从句的谓语用复数形式，而美语要求关系代词与one保持一致，谓语动词用单数。如果先行词为the one of十名词复数或the only one of十名词复数时，定语从句的关系代词应和the one或the only one保持一致，即定语从句的谓语动词用单数形式。先行词为 he，I等代词对其关系代词的谓语分别用 is 和 am 。总而言之 ，关系代词作主语时;谓语用单数还是用复数取决于它的先行词是单数还是复数。

    9、定冠词十形容词作主语时。

    The aged are well taken care of. 老人受到很好的照顾。

    The young are not certainly wiser than the old. 青年人不一定地老年人聪明 。

    The unemployed are losing hope. 失业者正在失去希望。

    The diligent have more time to work. 勤奋的人有更多的 时间工作。

    注: the十形容词在一定的语言环境里有时也可指个人，作主语时谓语动词用单数。

    10、某些表国籍或民族的形容词，即以-ch, -sh, -ese 结尾的形容词与定冠词连用作主语时 ，谓语动词用复数形式。如: the Chinese 中国人，the French 法国人, the British英国人, the Irish 爱尔兰人, the Scotch 苏格兰人，the Dutch荷兰人等。

    The Chinese are industrious.中国人是勤劳的 。

    The British are very proud of their sense of humour.英国人自己以幽默感而感到自豪。

    但某些形容词与定冠词连用，构成抽象名词作主语时，谓语动词通常用单数形式。

    1) plenty, lots of, a lot of, loads of, scads of, a world of，a multitude of, heaps of, the majority of等，后接不可数名词作主语时，谓语动词用单数形式!如接名词复数作主语时，谓语动词用复数形式。There are plenty of eggs in the basket. 篮里鸡蛋多得很。

    注: the majority作主语时，谓语动词用单复数形式皆可。

    2)all of, half of, part of, some of, most of, the rest of等接名词复数作主语时，谓语动词用复数形式; 接名词单数或不可数名词作主语时，谓语动词用单数形式。

    Most of my friends have come to see me. 我的大部分朋友都来看过我

    The rest of the lecture is dull. 讲座的其余部分很单调。

    The rest of the guests were in the hall. 其余的客人都在大厅里。

    注: all表示人作主语时，谓语动词用复数形式; 表事物时作主语，谓语动词用单数形式。 All were silent. 大家都沉默。

    3)many a，more than one，a series of，a species of，a portion of，a body of, a sequence of, a great/good deal of, an amount of, much of, a quantity of+名词以及 a kind of, a sort of, a type of, a form of, the/this /that kind /sort./type of书名词(不用冠词)等作主语时，谓语动词用单数形式。但more than one of十名词复数作主语时谓语用复数。

    Many a body is fond of playing football.许多男孩喜欢蹦足球。

    More than one teacher objected to the plan. 不止一个老师反对这个计划 。

    There is a small quantity of water in the glass.玻璃杯里有一点水 。

    A series of show on television is being put on.一部电视系列片证在电视上演。

    注: quantities of接可数和不可数名词作主语时，谓语动词都用复数形式。

    Large quantities of water are needed for cooling purposes.冷却需要用大量的水。

    4)none of，either of，neither of，each of接复数名词或代词作主语时，在正式文体申谓语动词用单数形式，在非证式文体中也可用动词的复数形式。做考题时，最好选单数。

    None of the cures really works/work。这些方法里没有一个真正有效。

    Neither of my brothers has/have been outside England.我两个哥哥哪一个也没有离开过英格兰。

    13、表时间、距离等复数名词作主语时

    表示时间、距离、重量、金钱、度量、空间、体积等复数名词作主语时，谓语动词通常用单数形式。

    此时当中有30分钟的休息时间可以出教室上厕所但不可以出楼面

    考生请务必掌握好打小作文的时间分配，一般小作文20mins,,大作文40mins
