DNF: Did Not Finish; used in race result listings to indicate runners that started but did not complete the entire race. Also used as a noun, as in "I've had two DNFs in my ultra running career", or a verb, as in "The heat was very intense and many runners DNFed". Also see drop.
Drop: verb: to stop running the race before the finish is reached. "It just wasn't my day. I had to drop at mile 87." Aso see DNF.
