- The match between Portsmouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers televised direct from Wembley Stadium. Commentary by George Allison. In accordance with the agreement between the BBC and the Football Association, no rediffusion in places of public entertainment will be permitted. Unless anything untoward happens the greatest football match of the year will start at 3p.m. To the person who is not a football enthusiast however, perhaps, the most fascinating part of the proceedings will be the scenes in the quarter of an hour or so before the whistle is blown. Viewers will get an idea of the unique atmosphere of this — 100,000 people singing together (surely the biggest choir in the world?) and cheering like the roar of a victorious army when they greet the King. This year the songs and cheers should be even louder than last year's, for the Wembley Stadium has been altered to accommodate 7,000 additional spectators
