In front with Rebecca

You did just go to Rebecca's party and she is being kind enough to drive you all to the school dance tonight. It's the least you can do to sit up front with her on the ride there. You hold the seat forward for Katherine and her friend to climb inside before pushing back in place and take your seat. Rebecca puts you in charge of the stereo for the drive and you play your best DJ selections that you think the girls will all enjoy. The drive is thus filled with the girl singing along to the song of Britney, Christina and Mandy.
Pulling into the schools parking lot you are surprised by the amount of traffic. It looks like nearly everyone from the top two years has come tonight. You can hear the deep thump of bass from the carpark already, the music system set to what must be it's highest setting. You make space for Katherine and her friend to get out and are just about to make your way to the hall when Rebecca pulls you aside for a moment.
"Hey, Kat, just give me a second and we'll see you all inside, ok?"
"Sure Becky, I'll get us some drinks and see you there," Katherine replies before taking her friend's arm in hers and leading them both inside.
"What's up?" you ask when you are alone with Rebecca.
"Hey look its silly and I really shouldn't say anything," she starts before stopping.
"No, go on. It's fine. Let me know," you encourage her to spill what she's holding inside.
"Well growing up next to you, I just always pictured us going to the school dance together. Then when you didn't ask anyone I wanted to ask you and then went I actually went to ask you I panicked and said I wanted you to take Katherine and..."
You take ahold of Rebecca's shoulders and stop her before she can set off too much further with her rambling.
"Hey, it's cool Bec. I feel the same way about you, and I should have asked you, but I was chicken. When you sent me to Katherine, it was easier, I guess. Maybe I wasn't as afraid."
Rebecca gives you the happiest look like you have just made all her dreams come true and hugs you tight. You hold her, smiling, and say, "I feel weird abandoning her, though. We could drop her off after the dance and finish the night together."
"Right now, I don't care, because I know that you are interested in me," Rebecca says, hugging you tighter. "Do what you feel is best at the dance, and I'll be happy to finish the night with you."
She tilts her head up and you take the opportunity to kiss her. You kiss for a few minutes. You take her by the arm just as you would as if she was your date and lead her in the direction Katherine went just a little while ago.
The music crashes over you as you enter the ballon tunnel set up at the dancehall's entrance. It's dark and filled with smoke and you are momentarily blinded by the party lights and strobe machine. You have to lean into Rebecca's ear and shout, "Hang out with us and we can dance together. I don't want to spend the rest of the dance with you sitting out."
"Thanks, I would like that," she says, blushing and smiling. Rebecca goes with you toward the two other girls. You are no longer arm in arm.
