Humans in the Sensual Realms are short-lived but prolific both as a species and as a culture. They travel more and adapt more easily than other races, always ready to adopt new practices to better suit life in the places they go. Once, there were many human nations, with many varied forms of governance and life; 100 years ago, however, the hordes of the Merlurn - the slim, silent shadow-men - surged forth at the behest of their alien gods and waged war on all the other races. Each defended themselves in their own way, some better, some worse; humanity did poorly. Now, the only powerful human nation left is the Kingdom of Heartstone, stretched along the course of the Majesty river. The war against the Merlurn has been going on for a hundred years, and it consumes men and women like a ravenous beast; in this grim time, you have taken up the task of keeping your people's spirits up.
You are a courtesan; trained in courtly manners and the performing arts, you are cultured and attractive. With a dabble of skills in alchemy, medicine and magic to keep yourself safe and in business, you freely trade in sexual favours, though such behavior is publicly frowned upon. You persevere, though; it gives you the gold you need to survive, and eases the high tensions that the people of the Kingdom are so prone to.
