Step off the stairs and onto a cloud

You carefully put a foot onto a cloud. It seems solid enough to hold you, so you step completely off the stairs. For a moment there, you're standing on a cloud. Then you drop through the cloud and plummet back to Earth.
You make a spectacular splat when you hit.
