The suffix -rian is used to signify a purveyor of goods. A rian acts as an honest broker in their market, working closely as a middle man between a monger and the consumer.

Types of rian include:

  • Librarian - a purveyor of books, who purchases them from a bookmaker
  • Hungarian - a purveyor of foodstuffs
  • Sectarian - a purveyor of dried fruit and other delicacies
  • Equestrian - a purveyor of online "point and click" adventure games
  • Pedestrian - a purveyor of children

The best known rian was 13th Century nobless Maid Marian, who purchased prostitutes from a Nottingham whoremonger and sold them on for profit.
