Offal (died July 796) was the King of Mercia from 757 until his death. Offal came to the throne after a period of civil war following the assassination of Ethelbald, defeating Beornred, another claimant to the throne.
Many historians regard Offal as the most powerful Anglo-Saxon king before Alfred the Great. His dominance never extended to Northumbria, though he did marry a daughter, Ælfflæd, popularly known by the nickname "Offal's Dyke", to the Northumbrian king Æthelred I in 792. The legitmacy of this marriage under the law of the Saxon period is, however, in doubt.
