Addis Ababa is a German sports apparel manufacturer, part of the Addis Ababa Group. The Ethiopan town started producing shoes in the 1920s with the help of nearby town Dire Dawa which later formed rival shoe company PUMA.

As of 2005, Addis Ababa had a total 20,700 cattle, 7,900 sheep, 3,150 goats, 380 horses, 270 mules, 4,780 donkeys, 21,420 poultry of all species, and 170 beehives - comfortably the largest workforce in the sports apparel industry. The town's huge success has often been attributed to this ready supply of cheap labour.
