Literature is the study of things which are almost true or bear a close resemblance to someone or something. In common parlance this idea is expressed by use of the word "literally", meaning "pertaining to literature".

Examples of correct usage include:

  • Liverpool are literally back from the dead
  • Flintoff literally took the Australians apart
  • I literally jumped out of my skin when I heard the news
  • The new generation of video games will literally blow children's minds

The word "literally" can also be used to mean "pertaining to the coast".

A person who creates literature is known as a bookmaker.
