(U.K.) A manufacturer and purveyor of grannies. Grannysmithery (the technical term) is a relatively new industry, its origins lying in the granny shortages of 1986-87, when thousands of grandmothers fled the U.K. to attend mass Daniel O'Donnell appreciation rallies in Co. Donegal, Ireland. The resulting incontinence pants and stairlift surpluses brought areas of Britain to a standstill.
