Szayel-Aporro Grantz is the Octava Espada and as loyal as can be...when and as it suits him. He is the scientist of the Espada and views others as little more than research material (and God help the poor bastard he shows interest in researching). He doesn�t concern himself with much else and rarely remains interested in one subject for long. He has a sarcastic streak a mile long and is very condescending, particularly towards those he believes to be less intelligent than himself (and that includes nearly everyone). Szayel-Aporro is also very arrogant; though he�ll readily admit to his lack of physical strength, he takes great pride in his own intelligence, strategic ability, and the various abilities of his release form.
[edit] Powers and Abilities
CANON: Szayel has the general abilities shared by all arrancar: Sonido, not unlike a shinigami�s flash steps, Hierro, or �iron skin�, Pequiesa, the ability to sense reiatsu, and Cero, reiatsu blasts.
Szayel�s zanpakuto, Fornicarás (Spanish for �will fornicate�, Japanese for �lewd evil concubine�), is where most of his fighting prowess comes from. His released for grows a pair of wing-like structures from his back and a mass of tentacles on his lower body, and grants him a slew of strange abilities. A liquid drips from his clothes, wings, and fingertips that, upon touching an opponent, creates a copy of them that uses their own abilities against them (and are often altered to be more...aesthetically pleasing). By wrapping an opponent in the wings of the form, Szayel can create voodoo doll-like versions of them. Any damage done to the dolls� internal organs (which can be accessed by taking apart the dolls and removing the labeled parts without causing extra damage to the original) is also done to the original, allowing him to debilitate them from the inside. Should a part of him be eaten, Szayel can gain control of the opponent�s nervous system and, ultimately, their body. His final ability, �Gabriel�, allows him to be reborn if his body is damaged beyond repair by impregnating a nearby enemy (and this process kills the aforementioned enemy).
AU: In the S1 universe, Szayel has no release form; Fornicarás is just a sword. In addition, his �iron skin� has been weakened, as well as a lot of his physical strength and speed.

Next to nothing is known of Szayel�s actual past, save that, before landing the position of eighth Espada, he assisted Nnoitra in sneak-attacking Neleil Tu Oderschvank under an unknown motive.
Szayel engaged Renji Abarai and Uryu Ishida in battle, using information gained from autopsies on Ilfort Grantz and Cirucci Thunderwitch to counteract each of their abilities and damaging them enough to force them into a non-combative state.Having lost interest he moved to finish them off, but before he had a chance Mayuri Kurotsuchi arrived to help them. Mayuri was able to render all of Szayel�s abilities useless even before entering Hueco Mundo, and quickly killed him...until Szayel reconstituted himself inside of Nemu Kurotsuchi using �Gabriel�. This was a mistake; by doing this, he accidentally ingested a large dose of poison inside Nemu�s body that greatly over-enhanced his reaction time and perceptions, to the point where one second seemed like a century to him, leaving his physical body unable to compensate for his mind and essentially paralyzing him. Mayuri stabbed him in the heart and broke the blade off, leaving Szayel to suffer for what seems to be an eternity, begging for a quick end.
