Cobra-2 Surface-to-Air Missile System

From Themarshallwiki

The Cobra-2 is a medium-long range mobile surface to air missile system produced by ENAER for the Ejercito del los Estados Confederados. It is based on the M270 MLRS chassis, and is designed for the area air defence of fast moving formations.

The system is operated by a crew of three, a driver, a commander/radar operator, and a gunner. All the functions of surveillence, tracking, and firing are carried out by this crew in a single vehicle.

The missiles are launched vertically, and have active radar guidance. The maximum range of the system is 50km. The firing unit carries a cannister with fifteen missiles in individual vertical containers. The unit contains an exhaust system for hot launches. The vehicle has fixed phased array radars, four in all covering 3600 constantly. There is a datalink which can be used to update the missiles in flight. The unit can be networked with other air defence systems, and AEW aircraft.

The missiles can be reloaded without external assistance by a system based on that used in MLRS.

The firing unit has an APU and an extra fuel tank enabling it run for long periods in a static position.

A light version for airborne and air mobile units is under development.
