A ring typically given as a token of friendship. Has strong Irish origins, in keeping with the Irish-catholic background of the characters in the songs. The direction it is pointed in tells if the person wearing it is in a relationship. Heart tip pointed toward the person means they are taken, heart tip pointed out means they are single.
