- Wii-Cade
Wiicade is a site that lets you play some snazzy flash games through the Opera Browser on Wii using the Wii Remote to control the action. Nothing like dozens of free games right? Check it out here
- Newsmap: Realtime Visual News for Wii
I present Newsmap (again, because it is a few years old actually). Not only does it fill the screen and look beautiful, but it is fully customizable, updates on its own via the Google news aggregator, and it's exactly what you're looking for. I've left this site up on my Wii during my downtime, and it's a great ambient display/conversation starter.
Try it out, you can have it display news for 11 different countries, and the colored sections represent World, Entertainment, Sports, Technology, Health, Nation, and Business. These can also be turned on or off. The stories get darker as they get older, too.
Heres an example of what it looks like here
And for the page add this one to youre favs NewsMap
- Wii-Mail here
Wii-Play gets Wii-mail! Send and receive emails between Nintendo Wii and Wii-Play accounts for free!
Wii-Play is proud to bring its users the first web based friendcode system to also include free email sending between the Wii-Play site and Nintendo Wii consoles!
WiiMail allows our users to communicate with their friends who may not be online by sending emails directly to their Wii system. For example you may have been chatting to someone a few days prior about scores in wii sports and not seen them online for a few days? No problem! Pop them a WiiMail and next time they check their console messages theyll be able to simply reply to you directly to your Wii-Play account!
Hopefully we can also further integrate this by accepting forwarded game stats (eg Wii Sports), take that data and do something fun and useful with it!
Wii-Play continues to make the gaming experience on the Wii as simple and effortless as possible. With WiiMail and our already complete friendcode support and chatrooms we continue to pave the way for the Wii system. Get started now and register!
[edit] Wii-Ware/Channels
- Wii Forecast Channel
This channel allows you to access local weather forecasts after turning on the Wii console. When connected to the Internet, the Wii automatically updates weather information from your local area and around the world. Use the Wii Remote to spin the globe and view weather reports from across town or across the planet!
- Mii Channel
Fun 3-D caricatured portraits of players, or Miis, created in this channel can be used as characters across a variety of Wii software. In addition to storing Miis on the Wii, several Miis can be stored in your Wii Remote and taken to a friend's house to play on another Wii console. Each member of your family can have his or her Wii Remote personalized with their own Mii.
- News Channel
You can access the most up-to-date breaking news from around the world, organized into a variety of topical categories using this channel. When connected to the Internet, the Wii automatically updates this channel.
This Channel can only be accessed when the Wii console is connected to the Internet.
- Wii Shop Channel
This is where you go to download video game content, including classic video games originally played on the NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis and NEC TurboGrafx platforms. Buy Wii Points with a credit card or redeem a Wii Points Card purchased at retail to add points to your account, then redeem points to download these Virtual Console games. You can also use points to download the Opera browser used in the Internet Channel (when available).
- Virtual Console Channel
After you download Virtual Console games from the Wii Shop Channel, each game will appear in the Wii Menu as its own Virtual Console Channel. To play the game, simply select the game's channel
- Wii Internet Channel
This channel will dramatically change the relationship between your home, the television and the Internet. After downloading the Opera browser with Wii Points, you can surf the Internet right from the comfort of your couch. The final version of the Opera browser will be available at the end of March 2007, and will be free for all Wii owners to download through the end of June 2007. A free beta version of the browser will be available on December 22.
- Wii Message Board
Forget hand-scrawled notes tacked to the refrigerator door. You can leave messages for other family members on a calendar-based message board. You can also use WiiConnect24 to send messages to people outside your home as well. Even better, you can trade photos and text messages with cell phone users. The service also allows for incoming game-related information. Games can constantly be updated, which extends their replay value.
- Disk Channel
This channel allows you to play either Wii game discs or any of the entire library of Nintendo GameCube discs you may own.
- Photo Channel
This channel allows you to retrieve digital pictures from an SD memory card inserted into the Wii console and display them on your television screen. You can also manipulate the photos in a variety of fun and creative ways, such as zooming into details or creating mosaics, puzzles or slide shows. You can even add an MP3 tune from your SD memory card to your slide shows. It provides a fun and easy outlet for you to edit and show off your digital pictures.
