Historical notes on Beta Proxima
Guarding the entrance into Sol, regulate trade routes, as well as monitor the dragon population in Lalande, the Beta Proxima Station plays a vital role in the stability of the cluster.
Despite what the locals claim, humans were not the first settlers in this sector. This sector was first colonized by Keldonians who created a small outpost for trade and fuel. That outpost, however, was destroyed in an accident involving a human freighter, The Nightmyst, which lost navigation control and collided into one of the several fuel tanks attached to the outpost. The resulten exploration completely obliterated the outpost and destroyed or damaged several nearby vessels. The death toll was estimated in the thousands.
The official post-accident analysis conducted by the Keldonians and humans revealed nothing conclusive, and they attributed it as an unfortunate accident. However, several conspiracy theories abound, mainly citing underground reports that The Nightmyst didn't collide with the fuel tank, instead it fired upon it and this was a ploy by the humans to rid Beta Proxima of the Keldonian presence. Regardless of the validity of the claim, the Keldonian lost interest in the sector and withdrawal their influences after the accident. Thus leaving the humans to build the Beta Proxima Station that is the home base of the human 2nd Human Homeworld Defense Fleet, and also a busy commercial hub.
