Whitworth/Group Parallels began as an unconscious coping mechanism used by Gavin in Spokane in order to acclimate himself with a different social climate. This is most visible in the overwhelming caucasian make-up of Spokane along with a substantially more conservative atmosphere, but regardless Gavin has tried to work in a few similarities:
- Owen has been compared notably with two of Gavin's Whitworth friends. The first, Ryan, has a parallel in being half asian/white with a Japanese mother and European father. The parallels end there however as Ryan is much more bookish than Owen and less confrontational. The second Whitworth friend, Fredo, is of Norwegian ancestry but has a similar aggressive mentality and Gavin has noted that their "angry grunt" is the same. They both lead the pack in physical conditions in their respective groups.
- Lukas is commonly referred to as "The Eater of Food" in Whitworth culture, as Gavin first showed Fredo a picture of Lukas wearing a shirt identifying him as such. It should be noted that most interpretations read the sobriquet as "Lukas Peter, Eater of Things".
