Sam Jeong was a student of Korean nationality who attended Shorewood High School. His amiable personality and willingness to endure what can be seen by many outsiders as ludicrousness of group behavior earned him high marks amongst his contemporaries. He is unanimously recognized as a phenomenon of Senior year.

Advanced Placement/Honors Classes

Like a number of his peers, Sam Jeong decided to forego the easy Senior year schedule that most opted for to close out their high school years, taking on a courseload marked by classes like AP Psychology, AP Chemistry and UW English. As a result, he found himself among the ranks of many seasoned honors students. Quickly, he formed alliances with the likes of Terry and Jeremy (along with the unlikely addition of Andy Dustan), while also forming what would become an awkward alliance with Kevin and Craig Myers in AP Chemistry. After weeks of camraderie, it became clear that Sam was able to let his guard down and reveal to the general public a persona that transcended the stereotypes of the dilligent immigrant student. It was around this time that his new found friends began exploiting him for catchphrases and other gimmicks.

The Sam Jeong Voice and "This Desk is for Football!"

As the year picked up pace and the AP test neared for AP Chem, it became clear that there was a competition amongst three students over the highest grades: Sam Jeong, Craig Myers, and the much hated Kevin Ahn. Kevin and Craig initially made their disapproval of Ahn known through vocal impersonations and what would come to be known as the Kevin Ahn Jiggle. While this animosity intensified, the relationship with Jeong began to warm. Jeong was soon consulted over the Ahn problem and seen by Craig as an ally against Ahn (Sam was later affectionally dubbed by Craig as "Sam Jeong-Il" and would often ask Sam for Taepo Dong missiles to destroy their common adversary). It was during this feud that Sam revealed in very candid interviews that he found Ahn to be a know-it-all and a suck-up. Kevin, able to replicate the voice of Jeong nearly to a tee, would attempt to deliver messages (supposedly "from Sam Jeong", but actually just messages from Kevin said in Jeong's voice) to Ahn, who would usually end up being confused. This vocal impression saw its most use and is perhaps best known by one phrase: "This desk is for football!". Terry recruited Kevin to come up with a Jeong-based slogan that would somehow involve a recent controversy over Ultimate Frisbee rights to the Shorewood field. The conflict arose when Mr.Weible, the school's Football coach, would demand the Frisbee team retreat from the field at inopportune times, yelling "This field is for football!". The impersonation developed when "field" was replaced with "desk", and instead of impersonating Weible's voice, Jeong's would be imitated and delivered in a monotonous tone.

The Jane "King" Kong Prom Incident

Through the course of the school year, a promising relationship developed between the group's own Melvin and Korean exchange student, Jane "King" Kong. Though details about the relationship are hazy to all but Melvin and Jane, it was clear that they shared something that was much more than friendship. Jane's heart, however, was not only Melvin's - she also seemed to exhibit slight romantic feelings for Sam Jeong as well. Though this was troubling to both male parties, it proved to be a less difficult than expected compromise - that is, until the subject of Senior prom came up.

It was clear that both men wanted to take "King" to the senior prom and that, sadly, only one of them would be given that honor. Acting quickly (with approximately one month to go before p-day), Melvin made some well-intentioned but ill fated reconnaissance through Terry. In Mr. Dahl's sixth period physics class during a very, very rare break in the learning, Terry slyly inquired Sam as to his plans for prom, asking questions like: "Hey, are you going to prom?" and "Hey - are you taking jane to prom?" Suspecting that Terry had intentions of asking out 'his girl', Sam Jeong quickly lied, saying that he had already asked Jane and that they were going together. Dismayed, Terry quickly ended the conversation and rushed out of the building to find Melvin.

Telling Melvin of the terrible news, Melvin, being a truly honorable man, decided he would not pursue the "King" any more and would set his sights on different ladies.

It, however, turns out that Sam Jeong did not lay the question on Jane until three days before the prom (no one had asked her up until that point, and she was pissed) and Melvin was pissed at two things: One, that he was not able to attend the prom with Jane Kong, and two, that he ended up going with, quite possibly, the most annoying girl on Earth. As far as local intelligence can gather, Sam Jeong is unaware that there is knowledge of his dishonor.
