The phenomenon known as New Brett voice occurred briefly in the Summer of 2005, and is generally contrasted with "Old Brett voice," the default inflection Brett normally uses in speech.
Origin
After a much anticipated tonsillectomy in July, Brett spent approximately two weeks recovering from the initial and supplemental surgeries associated with the procedure. One afternoon during this period, several group members including Jamie and Terry arrived at Brett's house to inquire as to his potential for hanging out that night. A vicodin-groggy Brett answered the door and explained that he was still not feeling up to leaving the house. During this conversation, those present--in particular Jamie--noted that Brett's voice was noticeably higher than usual, betraying his usual baritone timbre. Comparisons were immediately made with Fry (of Futurama), and eventually this came to be known as "New Brett" voice.
A surgery one week later to remove a blood clot led to a reversion to "Old Brett" voice, which continues to this day.
