Emperor Baby or The Child Emperor is a persona of Terry (created by Brett and Kevin, respectively).
Contents |
Origin
The characterization refers to two distinct character traits of XG member Terry Lee. The first being his bold, insistent, take-charge personality that often inspires group movement and activity. The second refers to his more childlike qualities, including Terry's foundness for stuffed animals and "cute" things, his desire to have people touch and scratch his neck, and a quasi-narcoleptic ability to fall asleep after playing for just a few hours.
The ideal imagery is of a Manchu-era Chinese emperor about 5 or 6 years old napping on a lavish throne while a throng of attendents hushedly waits for him to wake up.
Schism
Brett has pushed for the "Emperor Baby" epithet, while Kevin favors "The Child Emperor." It is possible that these preferences reflect certain personality traits of the authors themselves, as the former title is more an offspring of the absurd, while the latter is perhaps more suited for a wikipedia entry.
Trivia
- When Brett told Terry and Owen about the nicknames, Terry was initially incredulous and demanded an explanation. Several hours later, Brett and Owen took note that Terry had fallen asleep in one of Owen's armchairs.
- "Emperor Baby" may have originally been an allusion to, or inspired by "Admiral Baby," a latter-era Simpsons' meme.
