Jack in the Box is a local fast-food resteraunt on the 17500 block of Aurora Ave N (SR 99). It was favored by group members as a lunchtime alternative to eating sack-lunches or school cafeteria food.

Origins

In late 1999, as freshmen year of high school was beginning, Brett and Stuart would occasionally walk to during lunch. Lukas started coming with them occasionally, as did many others. The walk was usually carried out as quickly as possible to avoid the line created by many other underclassmen. Andy once remarked that since we had "hauled ass", we probably had burned somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 calories. The practice continued until several people got cars and were able to drive elsewhere.

Menu

Food choices were usually limited by budget with Stuart almost always getting a single Jumbo Jack and medium fries, which due to the generous value menu at the time only set him back $2.16 including tax. Brett was considered a bigger spender since perhaps due to the fact that he was given more money for lunch, or perhaps the fact that he claimed lunch was the only meal eaten all day, he would purchase larger meals. On several notable occasions, Brett ate a Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburger (prior to becoming a vegetarian in late 2000) and later complained of chest discomfort. Lukas for his part would order almost exclusively off the value menu, with no single item exceeding 99 cents. Popular items included chicken sandwiches, Jumbo Jacks, Big Cheeseburgers, Jacks "Western Cheeseburger", and medium fries. It was common practice to order another sandwich in lieu of fries, sometimes up to 3 sandwiches. 2 Taco's for 99 cents was also a short-term fad. Stuart at one point reported going there with his father and released from budget constraints, ordering the chicken pieces with bbq sauce.

Trivia

  • Brett would later stop at Jack in the Box even after having access to a car because they served breakfast sandwiches late into the night.
  • Lukas was once accosted and had his fries stolen by Orion Underwood, who was smoking with a gang of low-lifes. The incident briefly raised hackles among Lukas's friends with cries of "destroy him" and "kick his ass" being heard. It was exceptionally awkward since Kenny Gallagher, one of the aforementioned low-lifes sat at Lukas' table in 5th period.
  • Once when a car full of group members driven by Gavin was travelling through the drive-thru, and after the regular order had been placed, Asher attempted to order an Oreo Milkshake. Gavin misinterpreted this as an attempt at humor on Asher's part, so he angrily said "Shut up Asher! Just shut up!" as he had thought that Asher had been intentionally trying to screw up the order. Asher is considered by some to have been faultless in this exchange, for he indeed merely wanted a milkshake. However, this is disputed (by Gavin) on the grounds that Asher waited until the most inopportune time to order and that a reasonable person could assume that he was trying to disrupt the whole meal.
