The Pentium 486

From The D Archives

This was my first "real" modern computer. I got it from my parents, and even then it was a computer that had been patched together from a large collection of hardware and software. It had a 133Mhz processor. At first it ran on Windows 95, but then at some point when it broke down again completely, Windows 98 was installed on it. It was a Pentium 486, but that's about as much as I can remember about its' specifications. This machine was also known currently as "The Nostalgocomputer".

The sound card of the computer also had something wrong with it, since every once in a while the sounds "broke down completely" during a gaming session, causing large-scale punctuation of the eardrums. Still though, this computer probably held the most amount of sentimental value for me even today, since many great classics games were played time and time again on it. At the end of its' lifespan, the sound card-problem was finally solved by buying and installing a new card, but at that point it really didn't matter that much anymore.

The Pentium 486-machined was withdrawn from service in 2001, and it was then replaced by the notorious the Compaq 500 (errors).
