SR 47
From The D Archives
The SR-47 is a modern assault rifle based on the ArmaLite family of rifles created by Knight's Armament Company for the USSOCOM. Unlike the majority of guns based around ArmaLite design, the SR-47 fires the Soviet 7.62 x 39 mm round from AK-47 assault rifle magazines.
The rifle was developed for SF forces going into Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom, since the various operational areas offered more 7.62mm rounds than 5.56mm rounds in case of ammunition shortages. The direct impingement gas system of the SR-47 also caused some trouble in the gun, and caused all sorts of feeding trouble especially with dirty 7.62mm bullets.
After the original SR-47 had been pulled out service due to said issues, the SF command placed an order for the design of a new, but similar rifle. The result was the KAC SR-47, and there were only seven manufactured. Of these seven, six went to service, and the seventh remained in the museum of the gun's manufacturer.
