Area of operations or Artillery observer.
Area of operations = an A-O can be as large as an entire country or as small as the area around a unit's encampment.
Artillery observer = An artillery observer is a soldier responsible for directing artillery fire and close air support (ground attack by aircraft) onto enemy positions. Also known as the FOO or FO. Also see Tulenjohtaja.
