The .40 S&W is a rimless pistol cartridge developed jointly by Winchester and Smith & Wesson, two famous American firearms manufacturers. It uses .400" (10 mm) diameter bullets ranging in weight from 135 to 200 grains and operates at about 33,000 psi pressure.
