A Finnish novel by Arto Paasilinna. The story centers around a man named Gunnar, who decides to buy an old mill from a secluded little village in central Finland. Gunnar is a nice man and a productive part of the little community, but he has a funny little "flaw", which the people of the village are not very fond of: whenever he feels especially sad or considerably happy, he howls (or shrieks) very loudly. The people of the village do not like this, and in a usual sheep-like manner decide to cause trouble to Gunnar for this.

I think that this is actually a rather sad novel; It is all about not being able to understand someone's differences and thus making the innocent person suffer due to one's indifference. Still though, I like this one alot because of its' message.
