[edit] Appearance
Thanks to being brought up as a member of one of Triton's oldest, most distinguished families, Raoul has stylists who help him make sure he is looking his absolute best.
He stands at roughly 5 foot 10, with a slightly muscular build. he has medium brown hair which is usually always slicked back and held in place by product. He has a light tan, and always has a perfect shave.
When it comes to clothing, Raoul only wears the best. His family has been going to British tailor Gieves & Hawkes for the better part of 80 years. Regular clothing is a mixture of contemporary and classic designers (i.e. Gucci=classic, True Religion= contemporary), while during school he wears the required uniform of Janus Academy.
[edit] Personality
Raoul is a go-getter. He is willing to push past anybody in his way to reach his goal, whether it be to maintain his class ranking, prove himself better than others, or to land a beautiful classmate. But despite this, he still has a heart. He likes helping people, and is often in the 92052 helping the impoverished
Raoul is the type of person whom everybody seems to flock to. There is an aura about him that makes everyone in a room notice him when he walks in.
He is very soft when it comes to speaking. He never raises his voice, opting instead to talk in a soft, yet firm, manner. He never loses his temper in public, and tries his very best to maintain a soft smile at all times.
Around those above him (i.e. teachers, elders, politicians, people his dad works with) Raoul is sweet, polite, and is the perfect son. He knows when to draw attention to himself and when to "stay in the background."
However, he is a member of one of the most powerful families in not only Triton, but in the world, and he knows it. Just as he can be a polite, caring individual, he can be an arrogant, pompous, self-centered one as well.
A collective trait evident in an overwhelming majority of the Amhersts, including Raoul to an extent, is a disdain for the new money, or parvenu. This is perhaps a carry-over from the familys days as members of Germanys ruling class, but it is still quite influential in the way the family conducts its affairs. For example, the majority of the Amhersts family friends are families who have been wealthy for several generations- the Blair family being a prime example. The Blairs had been around since the beginning of Triton, and they were influential in the development of San Carlos County from their personal land, Rancho San Carlos.
Even in school, Raoul is usually seen surrounded by children of the old families. An exception to this was the late Michael Dupuis, older than Raoul by a few years yet they were quite close. Michael was the son of Eric Dupuis, and was technically new money.
[edit] History
[edit] Back-History
In 1850 a wealthy German (descended from a line of nobility) by the name of Adolf Amherst packed his belongings and moved from Bavaria, in Germany, to America- specifically Manhattan. 5 years later he founded what was then known as Amherst Land, a contract company specializing in the construction of lavish mansions for the wealthy businessmen emerging from the new Industrial Revolution.
In 1870, following the aftermath of the Civil War, Adolf Amherst decided to move his company from New York to the bustling state of California. Amherst Land soon expanded to incorporate nearly every field imaginable- from Agriculture to, most recently, Aerospace technology. Over a hundred and fifty years after its founding, Amherst International is arguably one of the most powerful corporate bodies in the world, and has made the Amherst family very, very rich.
{{However, exactly how rich remains a mystery to the public, as it was written in Adolfs will that the wealth of the family is never to be published and leaked to outside sources. Therefore, an Amherst will never be featured on a richest people list, though newspapers and magazines have often tried to estimate their fortune (adding up material assets, stock holdings, etc.). They prefer to have an air of mystery surround them.
Amherst Internationals headquarters are located in Downtown Triton. Known collectively as Amherst Plaza, it is divided into 20 skyscrapers of varying height, each one taking up a city block but built around an open park area. The buildings are labeled simply building 1, building 2, etc. and each is occupied by a division of the company dedicated to a specific industry. The remaining space is rented out as ground floor shops, random unaffiliated offices, restaurants, etc. Its current CEO and Chairman is a man by the name of Benjamin Amherst III, who rules the conglomerate- and his family- with an iron fist. His word is final, and objections are dealt with accordingly.}}
But the Amherst's didn't stop there. They dominated the face of American politics as well. As of 2007, several mayors , two senators, three congressmen (one Speaker of the House), two lieutenant governors, two governors, and one president have stemmed from the Amherst family tree. Currently, George Amherst (Raoul's father) serves as a United States Senator, while his brother Patrick (Raoul's uncle) serves as Governor of New York.
Internationally, distant relatives of the Triton Amhersts currently serve as Chancellor of Germany as well as princes of Monaco, Belgium, and Sweden (from the marriages of the original Amherst strain from the Bavarian nobility).
It was into this family that Raoul Amherst, second son of George Amherst (current US Senator (R. California)) and Miranda Torchwood (a Hollywood actress turned full-time mother), was born. He has an older brother Rodolphe, currently a sophomore at Oxford University in England, and a younger brother named Ryan, currently a freshman at Janus.
Raoul grew up in the pampered life of private schools, gated estates, and armies of servants. His life was sheltered to the extreme, not even knowing the existence of the plight of the 92052 area until his early teens (even though the Amhersts are famous for their philanthropy), which sparked his desire to help the residents of that area.
When it was time to enroll Raoul into school, there was no question that Janus was the one and only choice. Members of the Amherst family had been going there since the school had opened. On top of that, the family regularly makes extremely large donations to the schools programs, with Raouls mother on the board of trustees. He was admitted into Januss Kindergarten, and has remained at the school since.
He is currently a senior and serves as ASB Vice President as well as President of the Drama Club.
[edit] Current History
[edit] Power
Raoul has the power of the Amherst Legacy behind him. Nearly every member of his family since Adolf Amherst, who arrived in America from Germany in 1850, has either entered into the family business or entered into politics. He is the son of a US Senator, the grandson of one of the most powerful men in the business world, and, through his family, has connections at the highest level.
Power: Raoul cancels out powers. For example, if a pyrokinetic were to shoot a ball of fire at him, he would not get burned because the origin of the fire was a mutant power. However, if someone were to light a torch and throw it at him, he WOULD get burned because the origin of the fire was natural.
Though, this also means that healing powers wouldn't work on him, as well, and he would require conventional medicinal practices.
