(REPHRASE SO THAT THIS IS A MOTHER’S STORY) Somewhere in Begnion’s forests...

When the herds suffered, so did the tribe. Desperate for meat to fill their bellies, the People turned to the Master Hunter, Kimo, to provide for them. The sounds of his people’s pleas filled his ears as he stalked a great Beast—a Stag of the wilds. For such a majestic creature to appear, they believed it to be a gift from the Goddess to end their suffering. Two arrow shots into her legs were all it took and then she was down. But when Kimo went to perform the Hunter’s Rites the Stag transformed into a beautiful woman. Bewildered he took her to the camp and had her healed.

She gave her name as Nanali and forgave Kimo for what he’d done. She taught them of the Stag Clan which she had come from and showed them to her tribe where the clans befriended each other. When they parted ways the Stags showed them the way to a place where there was plenty of food. But Nanali didn’t want to leave the Beorc behind. For she had fallen in love with Kimo and wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. She was granted this wish and she migrated with the human tribes. She bore him a child and lost her powers but her love was so great she didn’t mind. The boy bore a strange mark on his body. They counted it a blessing.
