Design

Flexure was designed using CoMeT, (Compliant Mechanism Tool), developed in-house in MIT.

CAD

Marcus transferred specifications from CoMeT to existing CAD model, noting most excellently that the current square on the lead-swrew flexure connection was too big to fit inside the lathe body.

After conversation with Prof Culpepper, arm had to be added again to attach flexure with rails - this was so that a bushing could be used to constrain the rotation of the carriage.

Final part and drawing by Martin, 11th May (links to be updated later):

Flexure

Ready to be waterjetted, needs 1/2" aluminium.

Teflon Nut

Ready to waterjetted, using teflon given by Chris.

Carriage Base

AKA "The Block of Cheese"

  • Base Part
  • Base Drawing
  • Note: Uses 1/4"-20 screws in all holes inlcuding those added by Martin to connect to flexure.
