A muck-encrusted mockery of a man, until Alan Moore turned him into an earth elemental and started DC down a road leading to the creation of the Vertigo imprint. Unfortunately, some lesser writers have taken the potential Moore established and written some horrendously bad stories, leading to Swampy getting cancelled/restarted/cancelled/replaced by his daughter/cancelled... etc.
