Uses
Nearly all the sports at SMES use the field of dreams, which the students refer to as, 'The Football Field'. Football takes precedence in the fall, and soccer gets spring.
In the summer of 2007, a renovation project was commenced (and subsequently completed). The field was changed from a reasonably comfortable grass-and-dirt field, into a disturbingly squishy Astroturf affair. This was due to problems relating to the CIF championships of 2006, where it was decided that St. Margaret's field was not appropriate or something. It should be noted that it is easy to slip on the astroturf and break something. Just ask the 10 or so football players from opposing schools that broke their leg(s) during football games. Anyway, the actual field itself was shrunk, to make room for more lunch tables and bleachers. The bleachers, are, in a word, complete crap. The administration has said these bleachers will be temporary, although knowing the SMES administration, it is likely that they will be in place for many generations of Upper Scholars to "enjoy".
The old real field, being a nice relaxing place to sit when one needed to get away, take a nap, eat their lunch or just run around was replaced by a new "fake" field has now been roped off from the students by the evil Mrs. Maga. Thus banishing all students from stepping foot on the field because we all know fields are meant to be admired not used, along with gym floors, the reasons for this banishment being that students would bring drinks other than water onto the field and spit gum on the field (which we all know is a no-no according to the extremely long list of rules to the field). One could make the argument that students from other schools spit the gum, but we all know the athletic teachers are against reason. Leaving people who want to play any sport requiring a field to play on, AKA football, soccer, lacrosse, and many many other sports) to the asphalt in the parking lot or over the heads of innocent bystanders eating their lunches on the disgusting, unwashed and extremely defaced tables that for some reason lost their canopy when the plastic field replaced the real field.
