Biography

Little is known about Roland Allen's murky past except for that he was born in Alabama and "grew up there". This is partially because the author has never really asked that much about it.

Allen studied philosophy in college and said he "went through a ‘cowboy stage’ in college because I thought that it fit with being a philosophy major."

Allen became an admissions officer for many prominent schools. He was the admissions officer for Westmont College, Colby College, MIT and Stanford University.

Allen has many passions in life including

  • family
  • friends
  • hearty wines
  • strong coffee
  • good literature
  • photography
  • the out of doors.

History at SMES

Allen came to SMES in the 2004-2005 school year, guiding the class of '05's college choices. He immediately hit it off with the students, often drawing a select group of students into his office for lunch every day.

With his fringe indie/alternative music selection and excitement for school life, Allen became one of the student's favorite faculty.

Allen divides the entire student body with Jennifer Rudolph for the school's college counselling needs. Although it can become hectic at times, Allen has said he greatly enjoys his job and the students he interacts with.

He also has an advisory in the class of '06
