| - | Sage Hill, constructed recently in Newport Beach, California, is the presumed rival of St. Margaret's. Financed with the deepest pockets this side of the Harvard endowment, its buildings and fields were world-class, inspiring a fair amount of jealousy in St. Margaret's students. What money couldn't buy, however, was decent students. Sage Hill suffered from a lack of athletically or academically talented pupils, leading to pure humiliation whenever they engaged SMES. In one poignant example, the Sage Hill soccer program spent a large part of the off-season trumpeting their acquisition of a scholarship player named [[Cesar]]. According to Sage Hill, this new player would single-handedly allow Sage to compete with the highly competitive St. Margaret's [[Soccer Team]]. The stakes were high as the two teams took the field. In the end, it wasn't much of a competition, as St. Margaret's walked away with an easy 3-0 victory. In recent years, however, the quality of St. Margaret's soccer team has declined at an embarassing pace, and in 2005 SMES lost their first soccer match to Sage. SMES football and golf teams, though, remain dominant.
