MOVING WATERS
Standards: 7SB1, 7SA1, 7LAA2
GLEs: 7SB1.1, 7SA1.1, 7 LAW3.3.3
This lesson addressed the Science Content GLE 7SB1.1 in which the student demonstrates an understanding of the structures and properties of matter. The students demonstrates the attainment of this concept by explaining how temperature and salt concentration can be interconnected in circulation. The science process GLE 7SA1.1 that states the student understands the processes of science by asking questions, predicting, observing, describing, measuring, classifying, making generalizations, inferring and communicating. The student demonstrates proficiency for this GLE by using the skills listed and making generalizations and inferences about the real world.
The students were able to understand and explain how salt and temperature concentrations can be connected to circulation through the creation of currents in the experiment and in their lab write ups.
This lesson can be messy. I had three groups working on this at once and it was a challenge to distribute hot water to all.
The students dense layer.
More salt!!
It works, now to make a current.
One group used an aquarium heater and red fingers.
