Hellspawn are an army controlled by MadJackalPrime, who made their debut in Season Six of the Western Campaign and will be instantly recognisable to fans of the game franchise Doom.

[edit] Backstory

About a week into the Campaign, all contact with two Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC) bases on Phobos and Deimos, the moons of Mars, was lost after strange activity surrounding two top-secret teleporters code-named The Gates. Naturally, with the UAC being one of the military's biggest providers of technology, medical supplies and weapons, a platoon of heavily armed Marines were sent to investigate what went wrong.

None of them returned.

During the Western Campaign Season Six, the forces of Hell take control of both Mars and its moons (in an alternate universe) and force the UAC Scientists to re-program The Gates to lead to the Sprite Wars universe. They then launch a full-scale invasion of Earth, with the promise that "None will be spared".

[edit] Basic Infantry

Zombie: Formerly humans, their flesh consumed and their bodies re-animated into puppets controlled by the Spidermind through telepathy. Some utilize crude weapons like pipes and wrenches, but for the most part they simply trudge into battle unarmed. The lowest-ranking Hellspawn of all, singularly they pose little or no threat, but in large numbers they can be a nightmare. It takes one shot to the head to kill a Zombie.

Super Zombie: Faster and tougher than the average Zombie, but not by much. In small groups they are easily dispatched, but a horde can sweep through a platoon of all but the most heavily-armed soldiers like locusts through a field of corn.

Z-Sec: Although low-ranking, these Zombies have body armour, and are smart enough to use weapons, understand the concept of cover, follow orders, and even be capable of thoughts more complicated than "feed". They come in 3 different types; Troopers utilize P90's, Sergeants SPAS-12's, and Riot Shield Troopers come equipped with ballistic shields and 10mm pistols.

Imp: A tall, humanoid demon with sharp spines, claws and teeth, and tough, leathery brown skin. The fireballs they hurl at targets sticks to their unfortunate victims like napalam, and are capable of burning through most modern body armours, while at close range their and teeth claws can make short work of most unarmoured infantry. Although not much higher-ranking than a Zombie, they are still quite resilient and possess more intelligence than they might appear to at first glance. One Imp is not much of a challenge for a well-armed group of infantry. In larger numbers, it's often a much different story.

Demon: Bulky, large, horned, vaugely humanoid, with little brains and a lot of teeth. No threat whatsoever at long range due to their lack of a projectile attack, Demons are nonetheless able to cover long distances in far less time than other Hellspawn due to their horrifyingly fast charging speed, and at close quarters their thick skin and huge jaws mean they pose a considerable threat. Often found in packs no larger than 3.

[edit] Heavy Support

Commando: A large, muscular Zombie armed with a belt-fed .50 Cal Minigun. While normal Zombies are too stupid to follow orders, Commandoes can often be seen leading groups of Z-Secs into battle, and full understand utilizing cover, and even how grenades work. The smartest type of Zombie by far, all this and their massive Miniguns make them a force to be reckoned with, even singularly.

Revenant: Despite their ridiculous appearance, Revenants are terrifyingly tough. With their chests covered by medival-looking body armour and a shoulder-mounted missile launcher that fires homing missiles with deadly accuracy, Revenants are a force to be reckoned with even at close range, where they can lash out with astounding strength.

Mancubus: An obese demon with two flamethrowers where its hands should be, the Mancubus is as deadly as it is disgusting to look at. Its folds of fat are so thick it is resistant to all but the highest-density assaults, and the flamethrowers can spew balls of white phosphorous with horrifying accuracy. Mancubi have only one weak spot - the fuel tank on their backs, which will explode if shot with an incendiary round.

Hell Knight: A slightly weaker relative of the Baron of Hell, but despite its strength being slightly lower than its cousin it is not to be trifled with. It utilizes the same attacks, but has different colouration; tan skin instead of pink.

Arachnotron: As with the Hell Knight and the Baron of Hell, the Arachnotrons are a smaller, weaker relative of the Spidermind. Like their mother (father?) before them, they are all armed with miniguns; albeit, with slightly lower rate of fire, accuracy, and caliber rounds. Despite this, they are still incredibly tough, and are faster than you might expect.

[edit] Aerial Units

Lost Soul: A flaming skull that attacks by locking on to a target and flying into it and exploding, kamikaze-style. Deployed more like missiles than infantry, Lost Souls are relatively weak and only take one or two bullets before exploding, but can be produced in their hundreds by a Pain Elemental or two (see below).

Cacodemon: A huge, floating red sphere with sharp horns, one eye and a mouth full of dagger-like teeth. They attack at distance by spitting balls of "lightning" but at close range a Cacodemon is capable of swallowing a human - or smaller demon - whole. It has one glaringly obvious (no pun intended) weak point - its eye - but despite this it is a massive threat at range.

Pain Elemental: With no attacks other than spitting Lost Souls, Pain Elementals are comparable to transports for bringing them into battle. They often hang back from the fighting, spewing Lost Souls from a distance, but it is advisable to concentrate on destroying these first and then focusing on the Lost Souls. Unfortunately, terrified infantry may not always have such rational thinking as this.

[edit] Special Units

Arch-Vile: The nearest thing to a demon medic, the Arch-Vile can resurrect dead demons and attack by summoning huge columns of flame. As if that wasn't bad enough, it's also amazingly fast, and can teleport over short distances.

Baron of Hell: Resembling the minotaur of Greek Mythology, this huge demon can take a hellish amount of punishment before dying, and attacks by swiping with its claws and hurling green balls of energy. Fortunately, they are uncommon, but when encountered they can come in groups of two. One is nigh-on impossible. Taking on two at once is a death wish without a really big freaking gun.

Cyberdemon: Hell's mightiest warrior, a combination of demon flesh and human technology. Armed with a rocket launcher with a seemingly limitless supply of ammunition, the Cyberdemon is without a doubt the toughest demon of all, even a match for the mighty Spidermind but for the latter demon's intelligence.

Spider Demon: The mastermind behind the demonic invasion of Mars, both its moons, and later Earth. Armed with a minigun with a horriffic rate of fire and an apparently endless amount of ammunition, the Spider Demon is fearsome in its own right, and sends orders to its troops through telepathy. However, there are reports that there could be more than one Spider Demon, and it (they?) could in fact be taking orders from a higher power...

[edit] Trivia and Notes

-Due to not doing his homework beforehand, MadJackalPrime had to edit his introduction comic as he was unaware that Mike and Garrick had control of Mars and both its moons.

-The sprites used are all sprites from the classic Doom games, with the exception of the Zombies which were ripped by The Mad Soldier and edited by MadJackalPrime, and the Z-Secs and Commandoes which were custom.

-Paradoxically, even though the sprites used are from the original Doom games, the UAC Security Guards, Z-Secs, Zombies and Commandoes were based on the designs from Doom 3 because MadJackalPrime disliked the look of the original Zombie sprites.

-Most Hellspawn appear taller than an average human in the comics because the Doom sprites are not to scale with the Metal Slug sprites, with the exception of the Zombies, Z-Secs and Commandoes.

-Hellspawn have not yet been observed speaking, although Zombies moan, the Spider-Demon speaks through telepathy and the other demons roar or hiss. Commandoes are capable of a few words, but mostly just growl, punctuated by the occasional "You!" or "Die!" similar to Doom 3.
