Commander Evil here, using input from various sources, I've decided to write a basic, bare-bones, non-biased history of the first spritewar. From the first comic back in 2004, to the corvolt, to the execution of the heroes of mobius, the entire thing has evolved to an organism of its own, although its roots were based off many ideas. It's been one helluva time, and through all the bloodshed, violence, and general mayhem, it seems that one thing has stood above all else; one single factor has made this the great game that it is: Imagination. Through all the snowmen and mobians and aliens, and everything else, its a wonder we haven't been granted the rights to a movie! Well i guess I'll shuddup now and write the actual history, but before I go, heres some words from the founder of SW...
Talking with Storm
Commander Evil says: tell me, when did the idea strike you?
Storm the Fox: Delicious Croissants says: On the metal slug database
Storm the Fox: Delicious Croissants says: frankly, we all had it coming
Storm the Fox: Delicious Croissants says: Everyone was making sprites of specialized soldiers and private armies
Storm the Fox: Delicious Croissants says: I thought "You know, It woudl be awesome if people took these armies and fought with them"
Commander Evil says:
how long has SW been going?
Commander Evil says: like, how many years has it been going?
Storm the Fox: Delicious Croissants says: wow, since 2004, I believe
Storm the Fox: Delicious Croissants says: It was my first year at college
Storm the Fox: Delicious Croissants says: I Remember between classes, I would go and see how the war was doing at the Database
Storm the Fox: Delicious Croissants says: It caught on like wildfire. And that first Sprite Wars season is what I consider the purest form of the Sprite Wars. We were all experimenting in the game, and you had a lot of crazy armies
Storm the Fox: Delicious Croissants says: Aliens, Snowmen, Sonic Characters, Human armies, everything
Commander Evil says:
do you have any regrets?
Storm the Fox: Delicious Croissants says: Not really. At the time, we were making up the rules as we went along. WMDs were popular, Troop spam was a problem, but it was one of the few times where Humor and the Rampancy of the Sprite Wars made for an interesting mix
Storm the Fox: Delicious Croissants says: before long from the randomness of the game, it evolved into factions, and we made our decisions on who was good and who was evil
Commander Evil says:
what, in your opinion, has made the spritewars such a great passtime, and generally awesome?
Storm the Fox: Delicious Croissants says: oh, so many things
Storm the Fox: Delicious Croissants says: the people, the rivalries, the alliances. All the custom sprites that people make to try and get that little extra edge in the conflict
Storm the Fox: Delicious Croissants says: And the humor
Storm the Fox: Delicious Croissants says: A sense of humor plays a good part in the sprite wars.
Commander Evil says:
alright, one more question
Commander Evil says: what advice do you have to give to anyone reading this article, what advice to the new and old members alike?
Storm the Fox: Delicious Croissants says: Well, for one, War is war, but the story sells it. Yeah, you're going to spend a lot of time fighting, but it's good to make us care for the characters. Or hate them with a burning passion.
Storm the Fox: Delicious Croissants says: Also, to all the evil guys out there, Being evil is fun, but if taken too far, it's more annoying than menacing. Be methodical and pondering. Don't just do the generic bad thing for the sake of doing bad things. Have a method to your madness
HOLY SH-T ACTUAL SPRITEWARS HISTORY
To be added as soon as i stop being a lazy asshole. - Looks like Garrick was a bit too awake and decided to dug up Draco's account of the first two wars.
An Account of the Second Great War
Post Great War I Era
The year that followed after the conclusion of the First Great War was one of the darkest ever recorded. For the first time in Human history, the entire Earth was under occupation by a hostile force. The Corvolt Imperium, genetically altered human beings and their allies, the Mecha Army, the Violet Wolf Army, and the Highlander Army formed the new earth government known as the Terran Dominion. The humans that didn’t evacuate prior to the second Battle for Earth found them being ‘processed’ by the Corvolt’s occupation force, simply known as the Overwatch, or Civil Protection which was headed by the calm but maniacal Dr. Breen. The gasmask wearing troops became feared by the populace. As bad as it was for the humans, the Mobians suffered what has been called the Second Holocaust. The Corvolts had a deep hatred for anthropomorphism, mainly Mobians at the time. Many were taken to Corvolt death camps, though many were shot right on the spot. Those that were spared immediate death were put into slave labor. Many Mobians preferred death. The citizenry heavily opposed the Corvolts, as resistances began appearing all across the earth. Most were put down unfortunately, though some took longer than most.
The nation of Kuaradia, led by Commander Garrick Armisael Firehand was perhaps the most violent of the resistance forces. Having a strong military of thousands of troops and vehicles, along with a still powerful navy, they launched several successful strikes against the Corvolts, destroying supply bases, using napalm in their strikes against Corvolt troops, and public executions of Corvolt Army or Overwatch troops and officers. The Corvolts attempted to nuke Kuradia off the map, but the missile was intercepted by Kuradian aircraft and in response, Kuradia fired a large MIRV missile at City 4, destroying much of it. The Corvolts ceased their offensives against Kuradia for the time, this being called “the silent cease-fire.” A full-scale invasion was planned utilizing the power of the Invasion Carrier, but was never implemented in time.
The destruction wrought by the earth during World War III and the First Great War had caused terrible damage to the Earth’s surface. It got to the point where parts of the main continents broke off and became ‘continents’ themselves. One such large ‘continent’ was rather aptly named by geologists as ‘Pangaea.’ Due to its position in the Northern Hemisphere, and the resources it still contained within the soil, the Corvolts felt that it would be the perfect place to create their headquarters. The combined slave labor of both humans and Mobians in less than a year turned Pangaea into the Terran Dominion’s personal fortress. The Corvolts had no interest in fancy names for their cities, and as such were just given numbers. The first, City 1, built from prefab buildings stored onto the Corvolt Invasion Carrier became the seat of government for the Dominion. Cities 2 and 3 were also constructed in a similar matter by the Corvolts, but mainly to house civilians. Other cities, such as New Japan and Nova Prospeckt were also built. Pangaea’s title as a fortress would soon be put to the test, as it was to become the focal point for the Second Great War.
The League of Free Worlds and Operation Sleeping Dragon
The Mobian Alliance was finished. Much of its military had been crushed by the Corvolt Invasion, and its space fleet was decimated from the Second Battle of Earth. Nevertheless, MA supreme commander Mike Rugar was determined to take back the Earth. The retreat to the outer colonies became the breeding ground for the largest unified galactic army ever assembled. Never before and never again has the Outer Colonies, as well as other galactic entities banded together for a single purpose. The Mobian Alliance was reformed again into a new powerful, albeit temporary organization, The League of Free Worlds. The League consisted of Alpha Force, the Mobian Empire, and the remainder of the Alliance forces. The Outer Colonies, fearing an invasion by the Corvolts themselves, soon flocked to recruiting stations for the new League. The Emperor of Mobius assembled a large expeditionary force of over a million of its Imaginary Soldiers and many armored companies for the League. The entire Alpha Force, commanded by Alpha himself was at the League’s disposal. The year that followed was to construct this grand army for the sold purpose of destroying the Corvolt Imperium and its new allies. Earth would be avenged.
The League’s top brass, Mike Rugar, Commander Alpha, General Sturnn and Commissar Yarrick discussed long hours into how to launch their invasion of the Earth. Thankfully, local resistance efforts were common on Earth against the Dominion, and many transmissions got through to League headquarters. As a result, they knew that their stronghold, Pangaea, was actually their weak point. Destroying their seat of government would certainly put the entire Corvolt armada into disarray. Also, Admiral Sun, leader of the Corvolts, was a prime target as well, as his death would certainly paralyze the Corvolts. It took twelve long months of planning and development, but in the end, the League was ready to launch the attack, codenamed Operation Sleeping Dragon.
Opening Conflicts
An outright attack against the Dominion forces would result in the League’s destruction, as even though the year of military buildup created a massive navy, it still was outnumbered by the Dominion’s. Ground forces would have to be put in silently. Draco Strife and Metal-Geo, self proclaimed ‘heroes’ of the first War, thanks to their experience were part of a special Mobile Infantry unit, the Pathfinders. This elite light infantry unit was responsible for destroying the main weapons factories in Groznia Grad. Groznia Grad’s products ranged from Corvolt Weaponry and vehicles, to creating troops for the Mecha Army themselves. Its loss would seriously cripple TD forces.
Other nations that opposed the Corvolt occupation were also contacted. Colonel Giko of the JDF was still standing by. The nation of Kuradia, led by Commander Garrick, also stood by with their militaries to fight the Corvolts. Two mercenary factions, the redundant titled Mercenaries, and the Iron Brotherhood were also contacted to oppose the Dominion.
The Pathfinders, led by Draco and Geo were inserted in during a lapse in Corvolt patrols. Alpha Force troops were also inserted silently as well. After a hot landing the Pathfinders stealthily worked their way up to the town of South Brunswick. The Mercenaries began making guerilla strikes on Dominion targets after taking control of the town of Felucia. The Alpha force began to assemble near Malark Island.
Commander Storm and Team Firefox, after the First War had set up their remaining forces in the Mobian Desert, on the southwestern side of Pangaea. With their forces now regrouped, Team Firefox launched many raids against Dominion convoys that passed through the area. Being more suited to the harsh desert environment, Firefox forces destroyed many convoys with only light casualties.
The Kuradians, let by Commander Garrick, took a more overt stance. They pushed for open conflicts with the Corvolts at any chance they got. This unfortunately led to one of the most disastrous strikes of the war. Commander Garrick ordered a full-scale attack of City 1. The Corvolt Army heavily entrenched in the city, quickly opened fire on the Kuradian ships. Many of Kuradia’s finest battleships were cut down in seconds. Commander Garrick managed to escape alive intact with his own battleship, though heavily crippled. Losses were high into the thousands. Although chastised by the Kuradian government, Garrick still was able to retain command of the army. The Kuradians regrouped and resumed guerilla strikes on Dominion targets. In the meantime, the Kuradians set up landing sites for LFW drop ships.
The Mercenary/Iron Brotherhood War
At the start, both the Iron Brotherhood and the Mercenaries, despite the competition, were actually very close. Both sides were friendly, and if you were to personally ask an IB or Merc trooper, they would probably know a relative or friend that was on the other side. Unfortunately, this bliss would come to a crashing halt. The Iron Brotherhood leadership accepted an offer to join the Terran Dominion in exchange for wealth and territories to rule. To add insult to injury, the declaration of this traitorous act and betrayal to the friendship of the Mercenaries ended up with Merc bloodshed just seconds after the IB announced their allegiance.
This act of betrayal immediately sparked a massive vendetta against there once friends. In the opening days of the conflict, the Mercenaries, enraged by the IB’s betrayal, launched many suicidal attacks against IB positions and strongholds, not caring about the consequences but more for the sake of honor. As a result of these reckless actions, the Mercenaries were in disarray, allowing the IB to easily capitalize. The Mercenary commander John Jacques ordered these attacks to cease and to regroup around Felucia. The Mercenaries, now with their act together, began proper counter-attacks against the Iron Brotherhood. The two sides would near-exclusively fight for the majority of the war.
The Battle for Malark Island
Malark Island was set up by the Dominion to be a place to house Mobian slaves. Being an island and the bridges leading to it were closely guarded by Overwatch troops; there was almost no escape. Many Mobians that did attempt to construct boats or to cross the bridges were cut down almost instantly. Escape attempts usually are punished with many executions of the Mobian citizenry, including those that took no part in the escapes at all. Malark unfortunately, was to become the site for one of the bloodiest battles of the war.
Alpha force had regrouped their forces around Malark, hoping to free the Mobian slaves and occupy the town as a base of operations. Unfortunately it would not be so simple. Mecha Army forces, alongside Overwatch troops, launched counterattacks almost immediately against the Alpha forces. The Winter Amy would also arrive. Reinforcements from Kuradia, as well as LFW troops assisted the surprised Alpha forces. It looked as though the LFW and its allies would be able to push through, but the Corvolt Army, now realizing the threat they are dealing with, ordered the Corvolt Army to attack and destroy Malark and the LFW.
With the full weight of both LFW and the Dominion, the battle for Malark quickly became a stalemate. Both sides tried to out maneuver or out power each other, but both sides never gained an advantage over the other. One such instance was Operation Malta Offense, masterminded by Archangel M, leader of the Mecha Army. The Mecha Army would distract the LFW and its allies while the Highlanders secretly circle the eastern side of the island to the south and cut off the LFW reinforcements, and then let the TD mop up the rest. Unfortunately, the Highlanders were seen coming and LFW forces turned their attention to them, killing many Highlanders within minutes. While the distraction let the Dominion gain some of it’s ground back it was only a temporary reprieve.
The Corvolts used combat enhancing drugs onto their rank and file soldiers, turning them into true killing machines. Many LFW troops were cut down due to the enraged Corvolt forces. The VWA armies that took part also used their own biochemical weaponry onto the LFW troops, killing by the dozen. The troops from the Mobian Imperial Guard were considered priority targets. The Kuradians and LFW troops countered using cruise missiles from orbit.
All the while, Mobians were constantly being caught into the line of fire, and collateral damage was horrendous, though the majority of the Mobians in Malark would later say that death was certainly better than living in Corvolt servitude. Rescue attempts by Alpha or League troops would only return with few refugees. The lucky ones escaped off planet, though most remained in League or Kuradian bases.
The tide finally began to turn when Firefox forces, which had helped to assist the beleaguered League army, finally set up the Air defense network. The air defense network put around nullified the Dominion air forces for the time being. These were primary targets for Dominion forces, and as such LFW forces heavily defended each site. The temporary air superiority forced the Dominion into a ground war. The Dominion’s own anti-air based weaponry stopped some League air strikes, but the majority got through, causing horrendous casualties for the Dominions forces.
The Kuradians, sensing weakness launched a full cruise missile strike onto the Dominion troops. They developed specialized warheads to target specific armies. Conventional missiles for Winter, Highlander and VWA armies, EMP missiles for the Mecha army, and a bio weapon called Deavolium, a special virus that targets a Corvolt’s DNA, killed many of the Dominion forces by the dozen. Missile strikes from Alpha and Firefox also opened huge gaps into the Dominion lines. The League top brass frowned upon the incessant missile strikes, as collateral damage reached its peak as scores of Mobian slaves were killed instantly. Although non-stop fighting continued for almost a month, the Dominion was finally forced out of Malark. The Corvolts then attempted to seal the invaders onto Malark. Nukes were fired onto Malark in hopes to defeat the LFW in detail but LFW and Kuradian aircraft intercepted the nukes. The Dominion held its blockade, but more LFW drop sites appeared consistently around various parts of Pangaea, and the Dominion’s lines began to thin.
The total causalities for both sides were reaching into the millions.
Covert Missions and Continued Merc/IB Bloodshed
During the battle of Malark, the 13th Pathfinders, led by Draco Strife and Metal-Geo, finally reached South Brunswick. The small town was still occupied by Overwatch forces, and was to be eliminated before moving out to Groznia Grad. The Pathfinders, with some assistance from the grateful town residents, got into position inside the various buildings in the city, and in one clear attack ambushed the Overwatch troops passing by. Overwatch retaliation was not the Pathfinder’s only concern as a Corvolt battalion was en route to South Brunswick and will arrive in mere hours. Draco hatched a quick plan. Draco ordered the Overwatch uniforms, weapons, and vehicles stolen. Draco and Geo quickly ordered the entire town to vacate through the sewers as the above roads were to be mined. Draco dressed himself as an Overwatch officer, and passing by the incoming Corvolt battalion, told them that the Overwatch were retreating from a heated battle in S. Brunswick. The Corvolts fell for the ruse, and pushed onward to South Brunswick, only to be met by minefields and rigged buildings. The Pathfinders, hidden away in the Overwatch APCs, pushed onward to Groznia Grad unopposed.
The Pathfinders finally were able to make their way into Groznia Grad. Being an industrial city, and an important one at that, the city was heavily guarded. On top of that, the Pathfinders were to destroy several key factories: the Corvolt’s Frame factory, the Mecha Army/VWA manufacturing factory, a bio-weaponry producing facility, and the Corvolt’s main weapon production factory. The collateral was gong to be heavy, as each of the factories was run by Mobian slaves. While Overwatch guarded the majority of the facilities, Corvolt army troopers guarded the main weapons factory itself. The Pathfinders had to split into several teams of 10 each, as attacking one site alone will bring down the Corvolt Army within less than an hour. Each site is heavily guarded as well. This was to be a suicide mission, but Draco and Geo had some incredible luck, and the loss of one factory alone would cripple the Dominion war effort.
Geo took Team 1 to the main weapon production facility. Draco took Team 2 to the Corvolt Frame factory, and Teams 3 and 4, headed by two Pathfinder sergeants, went to the bio-weapon plant and Mecha Army/VWA factory respectively. The soldiers dressed as Overwatch was able to infiltrate their targets easily. However, while Geo’s team was able to set their charges, Draco got into a firefight with the guards in the main facility after witnessing a summary execution of Mobian slave workers. Not long after that, all four teams found themselves under fire and quickly. Team 3 was caught under fire completely and was overrun quickly. They were not able to set their charges. Team 4 managed to set their charges and armed before they went down in a heroic last stand. Geo got to the APC with only two of his soldiers left alive. Draco got out with his leftover troops and some Mobian slaves another way, stealing one of the Corvolt Frames. Draco was able to blast away at Corvolt troops with near impunity, allowing Geo and his squad to get out of the city. Draco and his squad fired the primary weapons onto the bio-weapon facility, achieving that primary objective for the mission. Draco then set the self-destruct for the Frame, and he and his squad slipped out of the Frame to the sewers.
The destruction of Groznia Grad could be seen from Malark Island. Upon hearing news of the destruction brought a high morale boost to the LFW troops. Little did they know of the terrible cost of lives in both the Pathfinders and Mobians there. Despite this, Corvolt weapons production was stalled for several months, and would never achieve the level of war production again when brought back online. Of the 40 soldiers accompanying Draco and Geo, only 5 Pathfinders managed to reach the drop point. The Mobians that Draco had rescued were quickly shipped off to the Outer Colonies.
The Merc/Iron Brotherhood War continued to escalate as both sides, fueled by anger continue to throw themselves each into the opposing army’s weapons. The Iron Brotherhood set up death camps to publicly torture and execute captured Mercenary soldiers. These death camps were main targets for Mercenary troops, as the Mercenaries launched rapid attacks into these camps and liberated as many prisoners as they could. The need for vengeance was so great that Mercenaries liberated from these camps returned to the front lines in less than a day. Many of these reclaimed soldiers were instrumental in the death camp raids themselves.
The Iron Brotherhood and the Mercenaries employed very different tactics. The Iron Brotherhood relied completely on head-on blitzkrieg like tactics with large numbers of conventional soldiers and vehicles. The Mercenaries, with their lack of numbers after the initial stages of the war, preferred guerilla warfare, and employed higher-tech weapons. On the front lines themselves, both sides were locked in a bitter stalemate much like in Malark. The people of Felucia were more than willing to join the Mercenaries, but their numbers were quickly growing thin, as the numbers of the Iron Brotherhood quickly were bleeding the Mercenaries dry. A solution would have to be found and soon.
The Push Through City 3
Reinforcements continued to come from the Outer Colonies to assist the depleted LFW forces on the now secured Malark Island. Kuradian Troops from their home country continued to arrive almost daily. The JDF, led by Colonel Giko, were readying for war in New Japan. LFW Supreme Commander Mike Rugar and the rest of the top brass concluded that City 3 had to be taken before an attack on the Dominion Headquarters of City 1 can be made. Even worse is that the Dominion knew they were coming. There was no other alternative. Many soldiers will die before the Dominion gave up its ground.
Code-named Operation Sea Dragon, assisted by JDF, Kuradian, Alpha and Firefox battleships and submarines, ground troops would make an amphibious landing into City 3 from the west and southeast. LFW and Alpha troops would invade to the west, while JDF and Kuradian forces will take the Southeast sector.
On the Dominion front, the leader of the Corvolt Imperium, Admiral Sun discussed with his subordinates about the incursions by the LFW and its allies. Never in the history of the Imperium have they dealt with an enemy such as this. Admiral Sun pulled the reserves from the Invasion Carrier in support of the defense of City 3. Sun vowed that no soldiers will leave City 3 until every last League soldier was dead.
On September 1, 20XX, at 0500, the attack began. Cruise missiles filled with warheads of different types rained down on City 3. Citizens scrambled for cover and shocked Dominion forces quickly got to their positions. Amphibious landing ships, much like the D-Day invasions, began moving to the docks and beaches of City 3. As the Dominion had some time to prepare, some of the landing ships were outright destroyed in the opening waves, but the sheer numbers of the LFW ensured that many still were able to make their landings. Dominion troops rained down fire onto the beaches and dockyards killing scores of League troopers in mere seconds. The beach and dock defenses were primary targets, and specialized troopers using laser painters were able to accurately target Dominion strongholds, sending accurate cruise missile fire into them. After a full day of fighting the beachheads were secured on both flanks.
League forces attacked with a fury that scared even the combat-stimmed Corvolt forces. Despite the horrendous casualties of urban warfare, League troops continued to push inch-by-inch, yard-by-yard into City 3. The air campaign was getting more intense. Eagle gunships from the Mobian Empire and Wraith Fighters from the League Air force squared off against Corvolt Deathwings and other Dominion air superiority fighters. Again like Malark, the collateral continued to mount as both carpet bombing and cruise missiles were often, and both sides were willing to damn the citizens just to destroy the enemy. The streets were littered with dead bodies and destroyed robots. Again, despite the reserves and the fanatical army, the Dominion was once again on the defensive and was slowly being pushed out of the city. In four weeks since the landings, the League controlled 2/3rd of the city.
Admiral Sun ordered the invasion carrier’s main cannons to fire upon City 3. He would not let the League troops gain any more ground, otherwise City 1 itself will be in jeopardy if they take the city. The Corvolt main canons destroyed nearly ¾ of the city, killing both LFW and Dominion forces. League forces were becoming intimidated, but Commissar Yarrick of the Mobian Empire rallied the survivors of the blasts and ordered a final charge through the ruins of the city. Many more League soldiers fell to the Dominion’s weapons, but the Commissar would not let the League forces fall here. Hundreds more Dominion troops and robots fell that day, and soon the defenders were routed and waged a full retreat to City 1. The Mobian Empire proclaimed Commissar Yarrick Hero of the Empire for his victorious charge, and many League soldiers looked up to him in the following months.
Both sides again lost millions in their attacks into this one city.
The Mercenaries Victorious
The Merc/IB war reached its peak as the Iron Brotherhood began to push the Mercenaries farther back toward Felucia. It was clear that if the Mercenaries did not receive any help or relief soon, the Iron Brotherhood would win the war. The League had committed its entire resources to the fights in both Malark and City 3, and could not afford to spare any troops or vehicles. Fortunately, there was one person that was willing to give the assistance the Mercenaries needed, Team Firefox. Team Firefox had fought so long during the Corvolt Occupation that they had the entire desert mapped out. When Commander Storm heard that the Iron Brotherhood was moving deep into the Mobian Desert, he ordered Team Firefox, to the protest of Mike Rugar, back to the Desert.
Commanders John and Carlos began to plan a desperate defense of Felucia, it was there the Mercenaries would make their final stand. They almost had to resort to drafting when Commander Storm contacted the two Mercenary leaders. The plan they devised was the Mercenaries would hold out in Felucia while Commander Storm and team Firefox launches a surprise attack to their rear flank. The Mercenaries would then counter-attack the IB forces, and the divided and confused IB army will be destroyed. They ordered all Mercenary forces to withdraw to the desert. Team Firefox contacted their hidden facilities in the desert to prepare for battle and withdrew his forces from the destroyed City 3 back to the desert as well.
The IB leadership, hoping to put an end to the war against the Mercenaries once and for all bet nearly their entire army into this offensive. Transmissions from the Corvolt HQ in City 1 ordered the IB to withdraw and return to City 1 for the upcoming defense. The IB refused, and pushed into the desert. The Mercenaries were prepared for the assault. The Iron Brotherhood began with a massive bombardment with their 88s and bombing from their planes. Anti-air Girida-o tanks, supplied by Team Firefox, devastate many of the incoming aircraft, though the bombardment from the 88 cannons destroyed mane parts of the city. In response the IB charged into Felucia with tanks and infantry, with orders to kill every man, woman, and child, Mercenary or not. The Mercenaries opened up with their own weaponry, destroying tanks and killing many soldiers in seconds. The defense was strong as the Mercenaries, about 7500 strong, pulled in all their reserves and front liners for this desperate battle, but the IB, around still outnumbered them two to one.
The Iron Brotherhood continued to pound away at the diminishing Mercenaries. They would not last long with the continuous charging into Felucia. Hope came when they saw explosions from the distance. Team Firefox, the charge headed by Storm himself, led his tanks and troops straight into the heart of the IB. The IB, taken completely by surprise, returned fire on the advancing troops, unsure on whether to continue to charge the Mercenaries or destroy Team Firefox. The advancing IB then turned their attacks onto Team Firefox. Storm was surprised by this, but the fresh army held its ground. The powerful Firefox Scorpion tanks destroyed inferior IB Di-Cokka tanks by the dozen, and the Firefox troops, well suited to the desert terrain, provided accurate fire.
Commanders John and Carlos gave the order to advance. Mercenary tanks and troops began to advance into the now divided IB. The divided Iron Brotherhood, now intimidated by the fire coming from two directions, began to retreat. Thousands of IB soldiers were already dead and most of their tanks have been destroyed in their suicidal charge against the Mercenaries. Now, on the full offensive, both Mercenary and Firefox forces quickly began to give chase. The Mercenaries would not allow any IB left to live. The Firefox vehicles, which were more adapted to driving in the desert charged ahead and soon cut off the IB retreat completely. Now caught in a pincer, the IB was soon being killed left and right. The IB commanders asked for surrender. Team Firefox was willing, but the Mercenaries would not have it. Not one IB soldier was allowed to live that day. Commander Storm, shocked by the harsh executions of the IB soldiers, was told by Commander John that this was for the sake of honor, an honor that the Iron Brotherhood no longer had. This was the end of the exclusive war between the Mercenaries and the Iron Brotherhood. The remainder of the IB army retreated to City 1 to prepare for the inevitable defense. They would never recover from their loss.
Broken Spirits and The Battle for City 1
With the Mercenaries and Team Firefox now back onto the front lines, the allied commanders Mike Rugar, Storm, John, Alpha, Garrick, Giko, Sturnn and Yarrick began to plan what was to be the concluding battle for the Earth. The seat of the Dominion government was in City 1, and they wished to destroy it completely. General Sturnn and Commissar Yarrick demanded to be the first to launch the bombardments into City 1, for the sake of all the Mobians that had been killed by the Corvolts. Mike Rugar did grant them that honor as they certainly deserved it due to their actions at the end of the City 3 battle.
On the Dominion Control Palace in City 1, Admiral Sun was furious that his soldiers and the Invasion Carrier’s main cannons failed to stop the advancing League army. He berated the other commanders for their incompetence and told that if they failed in defending City 1 they would all be killed as well. The Corvolt Imperium would not tolerate weak allies. As a demonstration, Admiral Sun ordered the Iron Brotherhood commanders killed for disobeying the orders to withdraw to City 1. Archangel M, JDR, RFZ, and Zepher knew that this had to be their final stand against the League. Considering how the League continued to win despite insurmountable odds, and the Corvolt Army slowly being pushed to the limit, failure was indeed possible. If failure was possible, how would they be able to escape with their own respective armies intact...?
Admiral Sun did not like being on the defensive. For the first time in his life he had faced an enemy that was besting him. He could not allow that to happen. Sun then decided that the best defense was a good offense. He pulled all the remaining reserves from the Corvolt Invasion Carrier and ordered his own army and allies to launch a last ditch massive assault on the League forces. They took Sun by surprise, perhaps he could take them by surprise as well.
Dubbed Operation Broken Spirit, Admiral Sun launched his assault on dawn of November 4th. The League suddenly found themselves quickly on the defensive as tens thousands of Corvolt soldiers and vehicles, backed up by the thousands of his army charged into the LFW lines. The LFW was indeed taken by surprise, but they knew that the line had to hold otherwise all their advances will be for naught, but their disorganized state after the battle for City 3 left them vulnerable for the moment. . On the first day alone LFW casualties nearly reached 50,000, with thousands every subsequent day. The largest tank battle known to man now took place on the open plains between the two great cities. League Mechs and Tanks squared off with Dominion tanks and the remainder of the Corvolt Frame legions. The MIG Champion Titans crushed many Dominion soldiers underneath its massive feet and blasted away many of the Corvolt Frames. At the end of the third day of the offensive, the plains were littered with wreckage and debris.
The tide soon began to turn once again to the allies, as the Kuradians and JDF launched their massive aerial battleships to pound the advancing Dominion troops. Corvolt ships were brought into low orbit to counter them, but were quickly destroyed from orbit by LFW ships. Their massive wreaks still have not been cleared out to this day, and are visible from Provitotank Hill and Silent Plains. Once again, the Dominion was on the defensive and quickly retreated back to City 1. The League did obtain another victory, but not without cost. Total casualties were around 300,000 dead and many more wounded.
Despite the losses, Mike Rugar knew that if they did not press on their attack now, the Corvolts would have time to lick their wounds and regroup, and possibly launch another counter-offensive. Mike ordered the siege of City 1 to begin. The Mobian Imperial Guard began their bombardment on November 10th. City 1’s powerful defensives returned fire. Many Shadow troopers quickly fell, but Commissar Yarrick nor did General Sturnn allow the artillery to cease firing. Commander Garrick brought his battleships into low orbit and once again opened fire onto the City. This time Garrick would not retreat.
Garrick ordered a massive firestorm of Cruise missiles fired onto City 1, every last missile at his disposal was used. The Deavolium missiles killed many of the Corvolt defenders outright, weakening the defense even more. After the MIG broke down the cities’ defensive walls, the League armies charged in. League troops damned the casualties here, as the time for vengeance was now. Thousands more League troops fell in the attack, but the Dominion soldiers were too scattered and disorganized by the incessant bombing and city fighting to mount anything considered a defense. During the chaos of the defense, the remainder of the Dominion armies, The Highlanders, Mechas, the VWA and the Winter Army quickly slipped and disappeared out of the city leaving the Corvolts to fend for themselves.
With the Corvolt troops diminished and no one else left to defend the city, the Control Palace itself was eventually sacked. Dr. Breen was captured by League troops, he was soon executed afterward. Admiral Sun had already fled to the Invasion Carrier. After three days of fighting, the League of Free World raised their flag over the broken Palace of City 1. News soon spread of the League’s victory, and within the span of a week, the whole world was in open revolt over the Corvolt occupiers. Thousands of Corvolts around the world were killed every day after City 1 fell. Despite the major victory, the war was not yet over. Admiral Sun was back on the carrier, retreating towards the black hole their army originally came from.
The Final Battle for Sol
At first seeing the Corvolt fleet retreating seemed as though victory was absolute. Mike Rugar was still worried. The commander then realized that Sun must not be allowed to escape. If Sun returned to Corvolt territory he could possibly return with an even greater army, enough to completely wipe out not only Earth, but the Outer Colonies as well. The Invasion Carrier, and Admiral Sun must be destroyed. There was only one option, a direct attack on the Carrier itself. Unfortunately, the Corvolt fleet still outnumbered the LFW’s on a 3-1 scale. It was again suicide, but Sun’s escape would only bring about the Earth’s doom in mere months.
The League’s fleet, which consisted of the League’s own fleet along with the Firefox Navy, the Mobian Imperial Navy, and the Alpha Force Navy. Mike Rugar lead the charge in the Super Dimensional Fortress Macross began its long chase after the Invasion Carrier. Their only blessing is that the Carrier’s massive size made it very slow, and the fleet would indeed make it in time, but defeat is still very possible. Mike was hoping the fleet to fire at the Invasion Carrier in hopes of destroying it, but Commander Alpha came up with a different plan. Alpha suggested a reattempt of what he had failed to achieve in the First War, fighting through the interior of the Invasion Carrier itself. The Macross held five times as many soldiers as the Alphas send it into the Carrier during the first War, and due to the depleted Corvolt Army, there was a chance they could make it all the way. Mike agreed to the idea. The Macross was to be a huge battering ram to deliver his army inside the behemoth. The fleet will escort the Macross in.
The LFW fleet finally caught up with the Corvolts outside of Mars. Admiral Sun ordered the Corvolt Navy to completely destroy the League fleet. Mike ordered the Macross to go to radio silence to prevent the Corvolts from using their dreaded Signal attack. It would be up to the rest of the fleet to ensure the Macross makes it. This was the Final Battle for Sol.
From the surface of Mars, many people could see the bright laser fire from the ships turbolasers in the bright sky. They would count the ships that were destroyed from the fight explosions. In space it was no different. The League Navy held their formation alongside the Macross. Many of the escort ships were targeted first and many were killed outright due to the Corvolts powerful turbolaser and torpedo batteries as well as the dreaded Signal. The Corvolts soon caught on that the ships that targeted the Macross were soon attacked and destroyed. They had an ace up their sleeve, and it was on the Macross. Admiral Sun ordered the ship destroyed. The Macross gunned the engines to full, and shields to maximum. The fleet, though many were being hulled left and right, continued their punch through the Corvolt Battle Line. The LFW’s ace pilots killed many of the Corvolt’s fighter squadrons and torpedoed many of the Corvolt ships. However, the charge was beginning to wear thin down the LFW army. The fleet took nearly 40% losses going halfway into the Corvolt lines. The charge would not cease until they were all destroyed. The Macross took heavy damage, and as soon as the ship broke through the Corvolt Battle Line, Mike ordered the ship’s afterburners to full. The resulting burst of speed sent the massive ship on a collision course with the Corvolt Invasion Carrier. The Carrier’s own main batteries fired at the Macross, but the shields still held long enough. With a mighty crash, the Macross breached the massive hull of the Carrier.
Upon breaching the hull of the ship, the troops stored in the Macross charged inwards. Corvolt guards fired upon the League Marines. The first waves of Marines were killed by the ships powerful interior defensives, but the League would not give in. Mike Rugar himself joined the fight in his own custom battle armor. The League troops, the majority Alpha Force soldiers hoping for a second chance, took down the demoralized Corvolt troops with ease. Using schematics developed by Alpha Force, the League forces knew exactly where to go. Admiral Sun, knowing that further flight was impossible, quickly donned his own personal battle armor and readied his elite bodyguards. His only option, kill Mike Rugar.
Mike Rugar separated with the League troops, and went off onto his own. He would ensure that Admiral Sun was dead. Mike finally found the command bridge empty, except for Admiral Sun. He sent his bodyguards to fight off the LFW Marines. Mike Rugar charged Admiral Sun with his battle suit, only to find out that the Battle suit Admiral Sun wore was twice as strong, as the lance Admiral Sun’s armor had cut Mike’s suit to ribbons. Admiral Sun was about to deliver the final blow when Mike began to unleash his full potential. Deep down inside of Mike whether natural or artificial, there was a hidden power inside of Mike, turning him into Mecha Mike. Mike’s raw power was even more powerful than that of Admiral Sun’s suit. Within seconds of wondering what the heck had happened, Admiral Sun’s armor, as well as himself was cut to pieces.
The League troops, despite gun turrets, Manhacks and Corvolt guards. The charges in the main reactor room were set, and the League troops feel back towards the Macross. Mike was already inside of the Macross’ hangar, unsure of what had happened to him just mere moments ago. Mike ordered the Macross to leave the Carrier and to head to minimum safe distance.
The death of Admiral Sun brought chaos to the Corvolt Battle Lines. The coordinated offensive against the nearly depleted League navy began to fall apart. The Macross soon was seen backing out of the Carrier. The Invasion Carrier soon erupted into a massive explosion that could be seen from even the Earth. The Invasion Carrier housed the generator to make the black hole stable for transport, trapping the remainder of the Corvolt fleet in Sol. They soon broke off in full retreat, ignoring the rest of the League navy. The war was now over.
The Aftermath
Nearly 30,000,000 League troops died in the war against the Terran Dominion. The Corvolt Imperium was soon crushed. It would take the League several more months to clear Earth and Kanthros of Corvolt troops. The total Dominion casualties ranged around 50,000,000. The total civilian casualties ranged into the hundreds of millions. Many civilians still to this day resent the League’s use of such collateral damage.
Draco Strife disappeared after the successful attack, some say he was killed by Geo, others say that he’s still a bounty hunter somewhere, but no one has seen him since. Metal-Geo took time off to get away from the troubles of war, but soon would become the CEO of a major weapons producer. The nation of Kuradia hailed Garrick a national hero. The Mobian Empire had given the same status to Commissar Yarrick and General Sturnn in a formal ceremony in the Imperial Capital. Commander Alpha and the near depleted Alpha Force assisted in the rebuilding, but it would take more than four years to rebuild their military back to full strength. Storm the Fox and Team Firefox retreated to New Gabriel to rebuild their military assets there. Mike Rugar, known as the Hero of the Earth, assumed control of the new provisionary Earth government and the rebuilding efforts. Admiral Sun's body, taken by Mike back to the Macross was taken for study inside a massive locked facility in Bellevile
The former Dominion armies retreated into the shadows. They would return again…
