Template:Mergeto In the fictional world of the Square-Enix's videogame Final Fantasy VIII, the lunar cry is a natural phenomenon, which takes place at regular intervals. It involves a flood of monsters falling down onto the planet from the Moon with catastrophic consequences, due to gravitational disturbance.

The lunar cry can also be caused by artificial means, as what happens closer to the end of the game. An Estharian device called Crystal Pillar can generate the effect when connected to an amplifying source, known as Tear's Point. During the third disc of the game, the hostile Galbadian military, led by Seifer Almasy, takes control over the Crystal Pillar and triggers the lunar cry, in order to acquire the tomb of sorceress Adel from space.

The previous lunar cry phenomenon took place over a hundred years ago, destroying the land of Centra and leaving only abandoned ruins left.

There is also a crater in Trabia, that was caused by another lunar cry thousands of years ago.
