Spira's History

Calendar

For clarity sake we will divide Spira's calendar in 2 periods: Before and After the events on first game of the series (FFX) take place, abbreviated as BG and AG respectively. Following this notation the game FFX2 takes place in year 2 AG and the Bevelle / Zanarkand war takes place in year 1,000 BG.

Significant Events

One thousand years before the events of Final Fantasy take place the world of Spira was much different than what we see on the game. Zanarkand, now a dead city was a vibrant metropolis with many skyscrapers and had a thriving civilization of mages, lead by High Summoner Yu Yevon. Bevelle was also a large, vibrant city. It's leaders were not preoccupied with the Yevon Church and were actually enemies of Yevon and Zanarkand. But a war started between Zanarkand and Bevelle and Sin was born of an attempt by Zanarkand to spare it's city. Sin proceeded to destroy all living things it saw on it's path.. Yu Yevon's Daughter Yunalesca defeated Sin 1,000 years ago and brought some temporary peace to Spira, in what was called "The First Calm".

After Yunalesca, the title of High Summoner was bestowed on Summoners that were sucessful in defeating Sin. There are currently only 6 High Summoners known to have defeated Sin after the First Calm: Summoner Gandof defeated Sin 400 years ago (400 BG) becoming the first High Summoner since Yunalesca. 230 years ago (230 BG) Summoner Ohalland defeated Sin. Lady Yocum defeated Sin approximately 100 years ago (100 BG) and Lord Braska, Yuna's father, defeated Sin 10 years before the events of FFX took place (10 BG). Yuna defeated Sin during FFX (0 AG) and defeated Vegnagun two years later, during FFX2 (year 2 AG)
