.hack//sonic, referred to as both as DotHackSonic and DHS, is a fanfiction work comprised mainly of the talents of Nam and Jes. Centered around a crossover notion of two famous games: the .hack series and Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog, the main idea was to place the Sonic characters into a virtual realm similar to that of The World featured in the .hack continuity, where the characters are in fact the online personas of humans who are playing the game. The storyline it follows bears similarities to all the different scenerios of .hack, but blends these with the general character relationships, storylines, and introductions of the Sonic series.
The story takes place mostly within the online MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) titled Mobius: An Anthropomorphic Adventure, which was created by the world's illustrious game company, Capital City Corporation (CCC). The game in the story is a blend of several different well-known role-playing games and their famed cliches from real life, which has earned it the joking sub-title caption 'New Minigame Included: Locate All Potential Lawsuits!' amongst its creators. The current high score is forty-three and is held by Jester, though there are no prizes won and since this is strictly fanfictional work, the chances of a lawsuit are diminished unless they attempt to published it. Main Characters
Main article: List of characters of .hack//sonic
The characters of .hack//sonic are derived from all canon comics, cartoons, and most importanly, the video games centered around the Sonic universe. Behind these character are human versions, given new names and generalized personalities by the authors. Each human version is given a past and a reason for why they play Mobius; anything from hobby-related activity to escaping from reality is given.
Sonic
Main article: Sonic
The protagonist of .hack//sonic, Sonic is the anthropomorphic, blue hedgehog avatar of Maurice, a junior student with authority problems who began playing Mobius at the behest of his youngest best friend, the child prodigy Miles. His class is Twin Blade. During Sonic's first battle, a monster he was attempting to fight levelled radically and killed him, sending him to a pocket area in the game and causing him to meet Tikal, who gave him the Chaos Bracelet.
Tails
Main article: Tails
Played by Miles, Sonic's player's best friend in real and virtual life, Tails is a secondary acxcount created so that Miles could play on the same level as Maurice. He in the Shadow Warlock class, and weilds several weapons which were moved from his previous account. Tails' player is a genius and thus understands the mechanics of Mobius much easier than Sonic's.
Amy
Main article: Amy
Amy is a fifth level Lord Partizan who meets Sonic and Tails just before the former is killed and receives the Bracelet from Tikal. She attempts to win the attention (and heart) of Sonic by pretendeding that she is being bested by a monster on the field, and later attacks the newly-levelled monster in a fit of rage when it kills Sonic. She offers several times to join Tails and Sonic's party in order to help them level, and sends Sonic dozen of emails a day.
Knuckles
Main article: Knuckles
An administrator avatar, Knuckles is a member of the Captital City Corp staff and is meant to keep the Mobius game running as smoothly as possible. He encounters Sonic and attacks him, thinking Sonic to be the rouge avatar who has been attacking and freezing the accounts of several players of the game. His class is Tribal Grappler, but he is familiar with all the classes. It is rumored that he is tied-in to the Arena Champion character Sinbad, since their avatars are so similar.
Shadow
Main article: Shadow
A reformed Player-Killer in the class of Adept Rogue, Shadow has become a well-known, but engimatic semi-vigilante within Mobius since the Virus was released into the game. His best friend, a Havest Cleric named Maria, was caught in the aftershock of the virus and like many others went into a coma. Since then he has searched for the creator of the virus to gain revenge, PKing those he feels deserve it on the way. He attacks Sonic, believing that the Chaos Bracelet is the source of the Virus.
Rouge
Main article: Rouge
Rouge is an accomplice/aqquaintance of Shadow, in the class of Macabre Dancer. She is an accomplished hacker and her skills are unrivalled, though largely unknown. Preferring to work behind the scenes, Rouge often supplies Shadow with cheats, modified weaponry, information, and the occasional lead on the creator of the Virus which detroyed much of the game data. She has an apparent past with Knuckles, and used to be an Arena Fighter before she met Shadow.
Trivia
- Because of its complex storyline and huge cast, which incoporates characters from all the many Sonic versions and merchandise and their human counterparts, .hack//sonic is actually the original reason SPFI was created in the first place. The decision to make the wiki into a full-blown database came about when Rem was added to the site's creation, and it expanded further as Soup became part of the team.
