Kiyoshi is a slender, finely-featured boy of about fourteen, with long, straight black hair that he wears loose most of the time, except during kendo practice, and cold dark eyes: while he is rather good-looking, his manner puts many off, there is an unsettling sort of gloom that hangs about him constantly, which isn't helped by what comes out when he opens his mouth. His default expression is either a cold smirk, or a glare: he's never been seen to smile or laugh.

an opal for a wound you carry;

His default expression is either a cold smirk, or a glare: he's never been seen to smile or laugh.

the more you push through broken worlds;

Kiyoshi was the elder child of twins, born to the (current) foremost onmyouji family in Japan: his mother, Setsuka, who had been the heir, disappeared shortly after giving birth to himself and his younger sister, Hikaru, only leaving a note saying that there was a necessary task for her to do, and that she would return as soon as she completed it. Only, however, she never returned, and finally, her mother, Matsuru, the twelfth head, finally declared her dead, and looked to her children to fill the void, to take up the role that Setsuka had left vacant. Her expectations first fell heavy upon her eldest child: all the stars had been auspicious, at the moment of his birth, a good omen for the future.

Except that, while he was the elder, Kiyoshi had no trace of ability with onmyoujitsu, and it was Hikaru who had the power necessary to step into the role of the thirteenth Clan Head of the Sumeragi clan. And it embittered him, knowing that he was pitied, for his lack of power, for his inability to claim his birthright. It embittered him, even once he discovered his own unique talent, of tapping into his own psychic energy, as well as that of the people around him, able to read their thoughts and emotions in a limited way, to bring forth manifestations of his own, and their own, inner demons. He enjoyed his power-it suited his bitterness and his tendencies for schadenfraude perfectly, but even his own power seemed a consolation prize, for his lack of ability with the power of his ancestors.

Finally, when it came time to take the entrance exams into high school, Kiyoshi had had enough, enough of the pity, enough of seeing his talented sister succeed beyond his grandmother's expectations, and he had to get away from Kyoto. He succeeded in achieving a place at Sunida High School, and against his grandmother's wishes, insisted on attending. Finally, she agreed, and allowed him to move to Ryoujinrou: he couldn't escape living with one of his cousins, though, at least, the cousin was completely without any sort of power.

But even here, the bitterness still chokes.
