Bikini Bottoms Up is a somewhat popular fanfic on FicWad. It was released in April, 24th 2006.
How It's ScumBob
- It's just 24 lines of "story" text and 5 other lines of unnecessary text. Nothing even happens.
- Being gay is fantastic and perfectly unharmful, but turning two established best friends into lovers is borderline incestuous and is just drama-bait and virtue-signaling.
- It isn't even funny, and this is labeled under "Humor", so it failed in it's established category.
- SpongeBob and Patrick talk about what it means to be gay, and seem confused, but when Patrick asks if they are going to have sex, SpongeBob says: "Don't we every night?" Which means they've already been having sex, but for some reason didn't know they were gay until now, which is stupid even for SpongeBob and Patrick, and is offensive to real people that are gay, as real people that work at restaurants would be educated enough to know what being gay means. SpongeBob not knowing what that means is offensive, when he should be smart enough to know, and although the story itself isn't overtly homophobic or even at all, it's still offensive as stereotypes are offensive and harmful and so is painting gay people in a negative light such as painting them as dumb and not understanding that if you're attracted to the same sex that means you're gay. Being gay does not equate to being dumb, and at the very least SpongeBob should have known what it meant.
- Squidward doesn't really do anything, despite being a part of the story. SpongeBob tells him he's gay, and Squidward slams his window shut. At least Squidward didn't hate the news and was just acting as he usually would, trying to live his life and ignore his neighbors.
Slighting Mitigating Aspects
- The fanfic isn't homophobic, so there's that, but then again half of writers in general aren't homophobic and write about more wholesome and fun stories. This story didn't have to be about borderline incest, but it did, so this is an extremely minor mitigation.
- The story has no typos, but that's expected from a 464 word long story. If this dragged on longer it may have gotten typos.
- SpongeBob appears mostly in character, despite being incredibly dumb as if he is still the guy from A Pal for Gary. SpongeBob proudly sharing that he is gay to Squidward feels in character and would feel inspiring if canon SpongeBob came out as gay (though that would break canon continuity).
