Description

Ariel is a small, rather pretty girl about nine or ten years old, with long blue-black hair that she wears pulled back into a braid with a tattered violet ribbon she tried to take as good care of as she can and dark eyes: a Sleeper would probably recognize her as being of Chinese descent, not that such things matter anymore. She dresses simply, in a violet shirt and dark pants, and the sturdy dark walking shoes she went to sleep wearing, now scuffed up and worn from much walking, since her parents believed in dressing a child of her age practically. Her clothes are starting to fit a little oddly, since she is just barely beginning her growth spurt. Bad time for it.

Oh, yeah. She also has a giant amphibious abomination, best described as a huge fucking frog, as a pet. It's kinda cute, actually. You know, as giant amphibious abominations go.

History

Ariel is a sleeper: she went to sleep a long time ago. In fact, maybe a few months before the button got pushed. She was the youngest daughter of a scientist who was intelligent enough to put all the pieces together to realize what was likely coming, and took steps to try to ensure his family would be at least a little safe.

And the years passed, and the world changed irrevocably, and she slept on, until at last, her timer went off and she woke up, somehow getting out of the tube only to find that her elder sister Angeline was the only one who remained. Her father, though neither of them would ever know, though he had promised to come and join them when he could, never made it into stasis, dying on the day the button got pushed. Their mother died when something went wrong in the stasis chamber: Ariel doesn't know exactly what happened, only that Angeline wouldn't let her go over to her mom's tube and said that Mom wasn't going to be waking up.

And the land had changed more then they had expected, grown hot and dry and yet somehow humid, the ruins of the old world scattered about. And it was not the only thing that had changed: Ariel was confused at how Angeline cared for her now, when she had always been distant from her, now that she was the only one left, but liked it nonetheless. And Angeline had dreams at night, and they discovered that whenever Ariel was emotionally stressed, it rained.

Perhaps they could have gone on like this, but then something happened, and they got separated. Ariel has no idea what happened to Angeline, or even if her sister was still alive.

And it was by a miracle, an indefinite time later, that Ariel walked into Safehaus. Alone. Well, except for the giant amphibious abomination she picked up as a pet along the way. So mostly alone.

Personality

Ariel is a soft-spoken, gentle young girl, shy, dreamy, and more then a little lost. She is intelligent and well-read for her age, though not really in any of the sciences. Oh well. She tends to be naive, and almost...drifting through life.
