Integralism
From Reign Of Terror
Integralism is an ideology according to which a nation is an organic unity, a wedding of blood and soil. Integralism advocated trade unionism and corporatism, and is often called the preceding form of fascism. Integralism claims that the best political institutions for a country are defined by their culture, history and climate. Integralism is often related to fascism or national socialism, but it has natural points of difference, such as the integralist indifference towards anti-Semitism.
Although the integralists typically use the sigma (Σ) as their symbol, monarchist symbols can be seen as well.
There are several integralist movements, most notably the Action Française, which seized power in France on the 6th of February 1934. Other integralist movements include:
- Acción Española, a Spanish integralist movement. Currently weak popularity, as the Federación Anarquista Ibérica is much more popular.
- Integralismo Lusitano, a Portuguese monarchist/integral nationalist movement. Less active during the past years, the Integralismo Lusitano peaked in the mid-twenties when they supported a coup attempt.
- Ação Integralista Brasileira, the youngest yet the second most popular integralist movement. Founded in 1932, the party operates in Brazil and has almost a million supporters. Led by Plínio Salgado, the movement has been especially active in politics but has mixed opinions on the Brazilian president Getúlio Vargas.
