Reddit Choose Your Own Adventure is a wiki for Redditors to collaboratively create an adventure.

You assumes the role of the main character, and in each page you choose how the story should progress. If you don't see an option that you would like to pursue, add a new path to the page. If an option is redlinked, click it and develop your own branch of the story!

The Adventure begins here.

Rules

  • Document substantial changes and story developments on the Main Talk Page. That way everyone will be... on the same page, so to speak.
  • If you kill the character, place the following code at the bottom of the page:
    Play again?
  • Do not contradict earlier events.
  • Check concurrent storylines to see if there are any details or branches you can merge to make the plot consistent.
  • People have a tendency to create branches where the character dies. To prevent the story from being just a tree with all dead ends: For each page where you kill the player's character, you must create at least 2 pages (with content) where he can go on.
  • Please stick to the theme and setting of the story, and discuss ideas for major changes on the discussion pages. Although creativity is encouraged, radical plot changes and inconsistencies will ruin the flow.
  • Example:
You wake up in a meadow. What do you do?
         Options: Examine your surroundings
                  Go back to sleep
                  Sprout wings and fly away

The "sprout wings" option has no grounds in the story (unless you want to dedicate a few pages explaining how the character gets wings), so it should not be there.

  • Story branches and choices can be silly, but not too absurd that it would not follow logically.
  • If something is off topic, remove it.
  • If you remove someone else's addition to the story, please document your reason on the discussion page or the edit summary.
  • Try to capitalize and spell your words correctly.
  • ADD CHOICES, NOT JUST TEXT. Complete pages include options so the story can continue (unless the page is an ending). Incomplete pages will be edited or deleted.
  • Keep it PG-13.

Tips

  • Don't give too many options when starting a new story branch and leave half of them redlinked. Focus on a small number of story threads at first.
  • Outline a general plan for what the intention of your story branch is when you start it: What genre and themes it belongs to.
  • As alternative to plain formatting for your story, you may try using italics to write the Narration, regular Font for character Dialogue and Bold for Character/Item/Location names or important developments. Whatever style you choose, make sure it meshes well with the overall tone of the story branch you are contributing to.
  • If you are having difficulty spacing out paragraphs, you can use <br>.
  • Don't inject crude humor into a story branch that's intended to be played straight.

Not a creative writer, but want to help out? We need you!

  • Proofread and edit pages for consistency, grammar, punctuation, and logic.
  • Format paragraphs and dialogue.
  • Delete troll pages, or other pages that blatantly disregard the rules.
  • Edit pages that ruin the flow of the story, or contradict earlier events.

Page Template

Copy and paste this for new pages:

Page text here

Do you:
*Option1
*Option2
*Option3

You can make the choice state something other than the actual title of the new page.

This is useful for when your intended statement already has a page associated with it.

    Example:

     intended statement
Ravenously pull apart the jaguar's brain with your teeth

    will show:

    intended statement
Ravenously pull apart the jaguar's brain with your teeth

You can link back to already created pages, when appropriate.

If the page includes information like:

You step outside for the first time...

Then you should not have the character go back to that same page, because it does not make logical sense that you would read "outside for the first time". The chartacter has already been outside once.

In cases like this, create a new page.
