Lieutenant Connie (Constanza) Murphy is a character from the short lived Sci-Fi television series, The Dresden Files. Based on the books by Jim Butcher, there were a few changes between book!Murphy and TV!Murphy.
+
Murphy was born and raised in Oak Park, Chicago. As a young girl, she spent most of her time with her mother. Her father, Joe Murphy, was a cop and rarely spent any time at home. Joes job was a point of contention between her parents and eventually her mother left for parts unknown. Murphy spent three days with her Grandma Murphy until her father finally left his stake out and discovered his wife was gone. Seemingly un-phased by this event, Joe Murphy continued to work long hours, leaving Murphy with her Grandma and herself. On her own most of the time and a tom-boy Murphy would play baseball with the neighborhood boys along with other sports. Her Grandma tired to mold her into a proper young lady, but saw that Murphy was happy playing rough and eventually let the girl be. It was during this time that Murphy started akido lessons.

Murphy is a lieutenant in the Chicago Police Department. She works at the twenty-seventh precinct in the Homicide division. She is partnered with Detective Sid Kirmani and often calls on the eccentric Harry Dresden "Wizard" and private-eye for help in highly unusual cases. Murphy is divorced with a nine-year-old daughter, Anna, who spends most of her time with Murphy's ex-husband. Her family relationships are more complicated. Murphy's mother left her and her father, though we don't know how old Murphy was when this happened. For most of her life, Murphy's relationship with her father was strained. Also a cop, Joe Murphy worked long hours and was rarely home to spend time with Murphy. When she was seventeen years old, Murphy saved her father's life during a heart attack. Recently, however, Murphy and her father have started to reconcile their relationship. Her father is retired and currently living in Florida.

When she was seventeen, Murphy came home to find her father collapsed in the front hallway of their house. She arrived just in time to perform CPR and break two of his ribs in the process and save her fathers life, giving him a second chance which Murphy will tell you he didnt take (1.12, Second City.). While her relationship with her father was very strained, Murphy still wanted to make him proud and after graduating college applied for the Chicago Police Department. She was accepted, made it through the Academy with a nearly perfect record and one of the highest scores in her class. On the streets, Murphy was a no nonsense beat cop, patrolling some of the citys worst neighborhoods. She was quickly promoted, in part due to her impressive record and also in part of her fathers friends.

Shortly after being promoted to detective, Murphy met Neal OConnell who was an aid to the Mayors office. The two had a quick romance and married shortly after they started dating. Two years into the marriage, Murphy became pregnant and gave birth to her daughter, Anna. However, her marriage was falling apart. Like her father, Murphy worked long hours and gave most of her energy to her job, which led to her promotion to Sergeant. Three years after Annas birth, Neal and Murphy divorced. Murphy gave her ex-husband full custody of Anna to keep her from being raised in the same environment as Murphy.

Murphy was promoted to Lieutenant and without the pressures of her family spent more time working than ever. However, she sees her daughter whenever she can and makes sure Anna knows she wont ever abandon her. One day, Murphy caught a case that she couldnt solve. Out of leads and out of ideas she called the only wizard in the phone book, Harry Dresden. With Harrys help she closed the case and from then on when she encounters something she cant figure out or doesnt understand, she calls in Harry to consult. The two have a tense working relationship at time, but respect each other and are good friends.

Not much has changed from the canon Murphy since she is a recent addition to the Realm of the Muse. She has made a few friends with the other cops, but is essentially the same Murphy she was in the TV show.

The Dresden Files lasted only one season. During this season, small parts of Murphy's past were revealed such as her divorce and her daughter. For the purposes of writing, I have developed this past in further detail including things like the name of her ex-husband, her relationship with her mother and other events. If at any time, new information is provided on Murphy's past, I will change her biography to match cannon

Murphy is rather tall at 5'8" with wavy brown hair and brown eyes. She's in good physical shape from practicing akido and her job as a cop. At work she wears button up shirts and slacks with heels to make herself taller. Outside of work she prefers jeans and cotton shirts. She almost always wears a silver circle pendant necklace.

Murphy is a no nonsense cop who is dedicated to her job and her city. She has a very black and white view on right and wrong and does not tolerate criminals of any kind. She will do whatever she has to in closing a case, which is why she uses Harry Dresden despite the fact that she doesn't completely trust him or understand what he does. For her close friends, especially Harry, she will bend the rules a little. The job always comes first for Murphy, very obviously seen when she investigated the death of Harry's uncle. She even went so far as to bring Harry in for interrogation and covertly get his finger prints.

Yet, she has bent the rules more than once for Harry and this has led to a lot of trouble between her and her captain.

Murphy is a protector at heart, with a soft side for kids and victims. She's very sarcastic and often cynical about the world. Murphy does have her dark side however. She is on anti-depressants for night terrors and insomnia. Murphy is on anti-depressants from nightmares. Though she doesn't know it, the nightmares are from vague memories she has of being taken over by the spirit of a criminal who possessed her body. She believes that a suspect, Edward Miller, tried to knock her out and then killed himself in front of her though she doesn't exactly trust this story.

Murphy, despite the things she has seen working with Harry, does not believe in magic. While she has discussed what she calls Harry's world, with Harry she has also stated his world cannot exist because it operates outside her rules (1.10, What About Bob?). Through role-play she has experienced even more strange things, including talking to various Gods, but has yet to fully accept or believe in magic.
Harry has kissed her twice. Once, when he was drugged and she rescued him and the second time when a spell of his needed a boost. After the second kiss, she slapped him hard enough to almost send him to the ground. Since he originally requested she slap him, it's unsure whether she did this because he asked or because of the kiss. While hinted at, there is no romantic relationship between the two.
